As I sit and type this there is a .44 Spcl at my right elbow, and a .44 Mag lever gun just a little further over. At the end of the day they retire to my bed room with me. When out and about it's a .45, 1911A1, on my hip, and my bug is usually the .44, or an Off Duty DAO in my right front pocket, and a Gerber folder in my right hip pocket.

Ideally... if you can afford a safe, you should buy one. Seriously. 400 bucks for the small one at Lowe's is the same as 1 marginal rifle or less than a handgun you'll lose when some junky breaks into your house and finds even one of your guns.
If you live in a state like I do... you could even be on the FELONY hook for what he/she/it does with it, even though you didnt bust the window, pocket property, or pull the trigger... you could be charged with MAJOR FELONIES! This is no joke. I like to have weapons secured in a safe, I think it behooves people to think about where they'd put "A" weapon, not 20 for defense... I'd rather have 1 great weap I'm GREAT with and some extra mags in strategic places, than 20x 6 shooters laying around the house... That all takes practice and discipline I also believe some people find it valuable to unlock the safe when they are in the house and have a primary weapon no further than hands reach away. It's 9pm, you're watching TV in any room in the house... Glass breaks... are you going to yell "time out" so you can open your safe? First thing through my mind is "you've got to be kidding, are you that ******* stupid?" |

i prefer to keep my gun on my hip when awake and on the nightstand when asleep.
a safe would be a good idea if a person had a lot of guns to protect... but then again i got the guns to protect me... not me to protect them. in my state.. you're not liable for what a criminal does with a gun they stole.... and if they break in the house you can empty the mag into them. |

Being prepared is not paranoia-it is just plain smart. The cops, and I used to be one,are not there when the event happens. They show up to clean it up. Trust me.

OOHRAH!
and I think that there's probably a lot of people who never thought about any of this and they come across a forum like this, and their head is swimming... they think about people planning for the worst, and they think to themselves.. "It could never come to that, this is the US!" Thugs will be thugs and that has been seen every time there's civil unrest, regardless of race, ethnic background or presence of govt... but you watch, if something big actually happens, White America will be the bloodbath of all time. Soccer moms who have mini vans and express passes for coffee shops aren't going to have the first clue what to do when the lights go out, and the husbands... they are going to figure out fast that after about 48 to 72 hours, if it's a long term emergency... they are on their own... and they have like zero time left to sort out how to help their kids, and they dont "believe" in guns, and the neighbors are getting restless, and there's already thieves showing up, and .... This all = PANIC. Honestly, when this happens, I'd rather be holed up with one of my buddies from work in an area that's all Pinoy or Viet... Those are tight knit communities and neighborhoods that will pull together. You watch what happens when the lights go out... |

Welcome to paranoiacs central. My father said an unloaded gun was no better than a ball bat. I have an Iver Johnson .38 by my computer, a Titan .25 by my wifes, A Taurus 1911 by my easy chair, Garand by the back door, an RRA LA458 by the bed. Shucks there is a weapon in every room of my house and 1 in each of my vehicles. Paranoid, HE// no. Prepared, You betcha.

Well I keep mine in a safe and one on me at all times. If you keep them all over the house I would think you have to put them all away everytime you leave lest you come back and find someone else pointing your gun at you.

I keep a Sig 226 in the headboard, a 1911 locked in small combination safe in the bedroom closet, a 380 on top of the dressing table that goes in my pocket when I dress (all in the bedroom).
I have a 1911 and extra clip hidden but in easy reach in the living room. I don't think the BG's would even find it. Keep one in each vehicle. Wife and I both have lifetime CCW's. Everything else is in safe in basement. I probably have 2500 rounds of ammo, and wonder if that is enough. Not paranoid, just not willing to go quietly into the night! |

I'm not paranoid. If I was I wouldn't be listening to the voices telling me to arm myself and be ready to duck. I'd be standing in a blind corner with my back to the wall. I don't do that until after dark.

I would rather be paranoid and ready for anything!
Otherwise, you're just hoping nothings going to happen and everything will work itself out. I think they call those type of people sheep/democrats? ![]() |

Old thread but I'll put my 2 cents in, from the looks of most of the posts most of you are rural (hope the country's safer). I live in the Atlanta area in Apt complex, had a drug related incident last year, 5 were killed 40 yds from the front door. You always need to be prepared, never know what life will throw at you.

Hey OS, I do have a couple scattered but probably need more as you never know where you'll be a any given time. However, I also carry 24/7 so that helps a little. You have made me think though. And NO, I don't consider myself paranoid! Just smart.

Its not paranoid to be prepared. I have a couple stashed around the house, and they are all readily accessible to me, but not to the grandkids. You cant see em, and they are "up high" (at least to a 6 year old) and I know exactly where they are.

I don't think we are quiet to the oppression part, yet. But I do not carry any firearms with me. I keep mine locked up, but I can easily access them. I live in a very low crime area though. If I lived in a higher crime rate area, I would keep my glock 22 with me at all times. |

The only time I dont have a gun on my hip is when I am in the shower or in bed. And then during those times I have one within reach. I have a driveway alarm and sensors around my house that lets me know when someone is outside, I have security cameras and I have an alarm system and I have 4 dogs. I still keep a gun within reach everywhere. And I live in a low crime area in the country.

I don't always have a gun right near me, but do always have several loaded and ready. INSTANT access is less important to me, because we are rural here and my dog Korban EXPLODES into a barking fit every time a vehicle enters our drive from the county road - that is over 200 yards away. He also sounds the alarm anytime anything out-of-the-ordinary is going on anywhere around the house.
When we first got him, I checked out the breed (American Eskimo). They are rated as BEST for a watchdog, but WORST for a guarddog. So we have this arrangement; he watches and warns me, and I will do the guarding for all of us. Now, when I am leaving the house - well, that is a different story. My 1911 goes with me, or my Smith .38 police special, or a long arm - or both. It is NOT paranoia to anyone that pays any attention to the news. Guns locked in a safe are a great way to keep the guns safe when you are away from home. Guns locked in a safe are a great way to keep the criminals safe when you are home.
