I'm thinking beings I took it off the other rifle, I'd put it back on the Ruger and bingo, it was fine! But at 25 and 50 yds., it was all over the place and tried different ammo and no help with that deal either. I gave it some thought and put a center point back on it and double checked the mounts (and all was good), and it's still shooting all over the place. I thought I was doing bad with open sights at 50, but with the scope, I wasnt doing to awefully bad!? It may be the see-thru mounts that I'm not used to. I havent had/used those in years on a rifle. But with the mounts on benchrest, the rilfe/scope feels great...so I'm still wondering what the heck!!!

Well Snakedriver, that may very well be my problem! When I was putting those rings on there, in the back of my mind, I was "doubting" and that should have been my sign right there! When I was looking, I looked at the B-square and was thinking they "looked" right. Should have went with my gut feeling on that.

Since I have not seen one here yet, another favorite a Remington 40X 1961 or so. Scope is a Redfield RM 6400 in 24X.

Zane,
Yes the cheek piece is custom. It comes in handy as the metalic sights are not at the same height as the sight line of the scope. As an NRA rifle, half of our matches are shot metalic sight only, the other half any sight. At my age a scope is all to welcome.... Regards, Kirk |

The M82 , made during WW2 , is a singleshot made to resemble the SMLE Mklll Enfield and was used as trainers for the Canadian military cadets as well as sold to the public. I have both leaf and peep sights for it . Walnut stocks , Linseed oil finish.

![]() CZ 452 special, Boyds thumbhole varmint stock. The special and varmint both mount in the stock the same way, the difference of coarse is the barrel. Although the stock is cut for the heavy barrel, I only have about 3/32nds space around the barrel, so it is acceptable to me. the first outing is below and the first shot flier to the left is obvious! The second shot is dead on so I have some tuning to do. BTW the targets measure 7/8ths of an inch, they lost an 1/8th in copying! All in all I think it has potential! ![]() This is the target I first shot, the first shot 3/8ths to1/2inch to the left! ![]() and since it is consistent down the row, I have an issue to address! all in all I think it has potential! DougBTW the range was about 35 yards, I don't have a rangefinder so it is just an estimate. The range isn't measured either. DA Last edited by da357mag; 08-25-2010 at 11:21 AM.. |

On the nylon 66 with a scope adjustment problem. If I remember correctly it has to do with the polymer used or attachment problems from the mechanisms to the stock always shifting thus getting it dialed in, it in essence will dial itself out. Stock sights, they were either excellent or poor. Didn't seem to be much gray area about them, but they were like black guns now. You either thought they were cooler than cat@hi$ or were @hi$!!!!!

Have seen one of these already posted, but NOTHING like this little guy. This STEVENS LITTLE SCOUT 14 1/2 was inherited from a father who never fired it. Son put it in a gun sock and sat it in his gun safe for the next 30 years. It came up for auction last year in Jacksonville, FL.
I had winning bid and it joined my little herd of single shot .22rf firearms. Original protective paper is still on the buttplate. Not a mark on it that I can find. ![]() ![]() Hard to find in pristine shape like this. Best regards ~ ~ ~ FFF |

REMINGTON NO.4-S AMERICAN BOY SCOUT, .22rf short, rolling block. Only made 1913 and total approx. 1500. Previous year was marked CADET, following 10 years was marked MILITARY. This one was basket case when I found it. Took restorer in PA 42 days to put it into original condition. I found a parts dealer with many of the missing parts including entire buttstock, hammer, 3-leaf main spring, etc., etc..
![]() Below is detail of stamping in the left side of receiver. ![]() We're now trying to find an original bayo and scabbard, OR one he can copy to make repros from. Also have the REMINGTON NO.4-S MILITARY in VG original condition except missing stacking swivel, bayo lug, and front sling swivel, which I'm replacing ![]() The MILITARY stamped rifles were made from 1914 to 1924. Hi JLA, I follow a LOT of online auctions and last night ran across several .22rf No. 4s being offered. They usually are relatively low priced compared to what these military types cost.
Sorry I can't recall WHICH auction houses offered them, but if you keep track of the bigger auctions like Greg Martin in CA, Kulls, or Rock Island, they have 'em about EVERY auction. They're a great old SOLID rifle. Good luck with your search for one. Best regards ~ ~ ~ FFF |

Here's my favorite, it's a Savage BRJ.
It's been accurized and has the 1/8" bottom metal that my gunsmith sells because the stock bottom metal bends and crushes the wood in the stock. It sports a Millet New Gen 4 X 16 X 56 scope with the thin retical. It has shot a best 5 shot group of .1" @ 50 yds. I'm pretty sure it will shoot under .1" if the white stuff and cold weather ever go away. I just need a good wind day and need to do my part. It either will or it won't. It likes Wolf MT the best. Not my regular shooting rest, but it worked to hold the rifle for the pics. John K ![]() ![]() Last edited by dksac2; 01-14-2011 at 08:37 PM.. |
