How many here would REALLY like to try a rimfire benchrest match?

I'm gona propose a match SOMETHING like they have over on Rimfire Central.
With almost 100 shooters every month: These rules WORK.

EQUIMPENT RESTRICTIONS: (Not many)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Ammunition: .22 rimfire, .22 Magnums and .17 HMR.
2. There is no limit on weight of the rifle or pistol.
3. There are no restrictions on scope power.
4. IRON SIGHTS may be used. BUT: They will not be put in a special class
5. PISTOLS may be used: BUT: They will not be put in a special class.
5. Triggers may be adjusted to a light pull, but must be safe.
6. Shoot over sandbags, shot bags, rice bags or any old bag. Use a tripod, bipod, a block of wood or a rock for your front rest. A bunny ear or rabbit ear sandbag is recommended for buttstock support. Shoot from a bench. Shoot prone with a sling or over sandbags. Shoot over a log or the hood of your truck if you want.
7. One piece rests are allowed. BUT: No rest attached to the bench or capable of "return to battery" would be allowed. If you can push the rifle forward after recoil, and the crosshairs are back on the aiming point, it is a “return to battery” rest.

COURSE OF FIRE

1. One match each month.
2. Distance 100 yards.
3. Position: Benchrest or any other position you want.
4. Target: 100 Yard NRA A-25. Or: Outers #45725 available at WalMart.
5. Number of targets: You may shoot up to four targets per month.
6. Report the score from the BEST target of the four.

SCORING AND REPORTING SCORES

1. Each shooter will score his or her own targets.
2. Have another person check targets for accuracy.
3. Post a picture of BEST target, with the gun on TFF.
4. Along with the picture, the shooter should include:
(Score) (Name) (Home Town, State) (Screen Name)
(Rifle Make/Model). (Scope make/power). (Brand of ammo).
Any custom work and or custom parts.
Weather report and EXCUSES.
5. If you have learned how to score, you do not have to send the target in for scoring.

Well . . . Why them rules? Because they seem to work.

I been trying to promote benchrest matches since back in 1957. In our club here in Sault Ste. Marie, we tried everything we could think of. By eliminated those things that didn’t work, we kept trying. We wanted something that would attract NEW shooters to a match and keep them coming back for more. I think we found the formula, and those rules are a basic part of it. The KEY is: "Shoot What Ya Got".

1. Make it FUN

2. Eliminate complicated equipment rules.
a. No need to determine which equipment class the rifle should be in.
b. No need to check rifle weight or trigger pull.
c. No need to check stock dimensions.

3. No fancy awards.
a. New shooters ain’t gona win nothin anyway.
b. Old shooters got too may plaques and trophies clutterin up things now.

4. Post scores so everyone knows how they did against everyone else.

5. List equipment used so we can compare:
a. Our CZ-452 against other 452s.
b. Our Mossberg against other Mossbergs.
c. Our watever we have against others with the same equipment.

6. Post names and home towns
a. This works on Rimfire Central
b. Shooters get to know each other.
c. Some shooters living close are able to meet and shoot together.
d. Many: (especially juniors) enjoy seeing there names on the web.
e. We don’t want Robin Hood from Sherwood Forest posting scores.

7. 100 Yards and the same target for both rifle and pistol.
a. Some pistols are going to “kick butt” on the average rifle.
b. 100 yards is different and should attract experienced shooters.
c. 25 & 50 yard matches are already set up. Why duplicate them?
c. Hunting scopes without parallax adjustment can be uses with accuracy.

There is more: Including “Performance Classes” and “State Team Matches” We use those in the E-Mail Matches, but let’s see if there is interest here in the basics, before we get into that.
