If only 3 weapons I prefer to have:
Taurus PT99 9mm lots of defensive ammo around. Ruger Mini14 223 capable of home defence and taking game up to Whitetail deer size. Semi-auto shotgun 12ga. Good for hunting and home defence. |

I can't believe I didn't answer this yet!
Two of the three I HAVE, ONE is still out in the future.... My "Polishcustom" 1911 style .45... My tRusty '97 Riot My (future) M1A SOCOM (Until I get the SOCOM, I will haveta use either my Yugo SKS, one of my MN Carbines(either the pole or the Scout,) or else maybe the Ishapore SMLE in .308.....)

Only three???
Wow, I can't even imagine that!!!So, OK. I see many, if not most of the responses, are from the shtf angle, but I don't see anthing to suggest that in the original post, so I'll look at from a general view. For my purposes: Marlin M1895 LTD-III 45/70 S&W M629 Mountain Gun (44 Mag) AyA Matador 12ga double However, since I don't bird hunt anymore, and since a shotgun would be a rather awkward defense gun in my house, I would prefer to replace the shotgun with my little Walther P-22, as a .22 would be more useful to me. The Marlin 45/70 can be loaded for everything from small game to elephants, the Smith 44 likewise can be loaded from squib "cowboy loads" to 300gr big and/or nasty animal loads, with defense loads somewhere in between. The Mountain Gun is a little heavy for optimum CCW use, of course, but with its round butt and 4" bbl it can be used for that. The Marlin 45/70 is about as versatile of a big game rifle as you can get, IMO, and with the new electronic rangefinders, trajectory is no longer much of an issue for long range shots, should they become necessary. The 375 H&H is an excellent all around rifle, but my old creaky body appreciates the light weight of the Marlin 45/70. Best regards, BIGBOOMER

i'm assuming were not talking about a day in the field here, so if it came to three i already own,
colt AR15A2 remington 11-87 sp purpose G17 and if it came down to only one, the shotgun wins.

Pistol - H&K USP Compact 9mm (w/ high cap mags)
Shotgun - Remington 870 Express Rifle - Remington 700 BDL Stainless - .270 That should cover most every doomsday scenario I can think of. If I can only have three weapons, something has going terribly awry. In that case, I'd be willing to trade my rifle for 50 cases of Jim Beam Black. Keep shopping at Costco, or buy your insurance from Progressive, and three guns may be all we end up with. Better yet, vote for democrats every chance you get and you'll end up with none. God Bless America. Pat Hurley |

Handgun: Ruger SP101 .357 2-1/4" stainless (and I'm sure a comparable Smith would do just fine here as well).
If the choice is limited only to "pistols" I'd have to say a good old 1911 .45ACP would be just fine, too. Rifle: my trusty old Winchester model 70 .270 Shotgun: Remington 870 Wingmaster 12 gauge pump ![]() |
