Serated or straight edged?

Whats your choice in blades. Straight or serrated?

Serrated for rope and cardboard...... Plain for everything else. Some of the combo blades are useful as well.

I recently learned how to determine if your edge needs work. Just take the cutting edge and push lightly on your fingernail. If it digs in the edge is good. If it slides it needs work.

I probably have over a hundred edge tools and never knew the trick.

Straight edge only. I don't like serated blades at all. Won't buy one, won't use one.

My personal preference is a partially serrated blade, but I also prefer blades with a sharp change in angle. Like this: http://www.kershawknives.com/product...&brand=kershaw

All my life its been straight blade had no need of a serrated. Then I was given a Cutco serrated hunting knife. Cutco calls it the Double D this is there Disgin on serrated. I have been hunting, fishing , and trapping for a long time and own 20-30 diffrent knives. But the Cutco is the best I have ever used!!!

Ditto, the only time a serrated edge could be handy is cutting rope in a hurry but I have never had a problem cutting it with my straight edge blades as long as I have a good working edge on it.

A straight edge works best for me. And a lot less time needed to sharpen it.

That "sharp change in angle" is called a Tanto, and is very useful for a lot of things, but was designed for rapid penetration.

I'm another that likes straight edges blades, much easier to sharpen.

I prefer a sharp straight edge. I have never liked a serrated in any form, except for a bread knife, which is better on freshly made bread.

I thought that, and even had it typed in at first, but then I doubted myself and tried to look it up, and I couldn't find that name attached to any of them, so I took it out. Thanks for the confirmation.

I never have any trouble with sharp blades. My wife loves to sharpen blades, and she even has the patience with an angled file to to do the serrations properly.

I have both and lately seeing more combo blades. My super tool has both and comes in handy for those other things like hoses where serated seems better.

Fine edged and serrated edge blades each have a purpose. I find that fine edge blades are more usefull than the serrated. As for a combo edge you get a knife that only performs half as well as either a fine or serrated blade.
I have 2 combo edge knives and they live in a drawer of my night stand.

My EDC is a Spyderco Delica combo blade. I love it.

With you on that. My dive knife with the combo blade cuts "anything" which can come in handy if one gets in a "tangle" underwater. Where time is always of the essence.
