Default So their gonna sue the city! This p!$$!$ me off

Here's the deal.
Last July, a deaf Mobile man who has the mental capacity of a 10 year old, (he is about 28) goes into a restroom at a local Dollar General store. He was in there for about an hour when the store manager starts wondering what's going on. She had no idea he was mentally handicapped. After repeatedly knocking on the door with no response, she called the cops. The cops get there and knock on the door also with no response. Keep in mind that at this point, no one knows the guy is mentally handicapped. The cops, thinking the guy was up to no good and refusing to open the door, spray pepper spray under the door. He still would not open the door. Then, the cops start busting the door in. At this point, the guy starts pushing back on the door to keep the cops out. The cops are able to get in and the guy is trying to push them out, so they tase him three times before they can subdue him. They cuff the guy and get him outside. After going through his wallet, they find a card saying that he is a deaf mute. Now here is the only thing that I think the cops did wrong. Some Lt. on the scene still arrested him on some charge which was soon over ruled by someone higher up.
Here's the thing. This was an awful event, and I felt bad for the poor guy, but where was his family? Why wasn't someone with him if he is a deaf mute with the mental capacity of a 10 year old. Now some may say he was high functioning enough to be out on his own. Maybe, maybe not. If he were my son, I would probably accompany him while out. But no, no family members were there.
So now this family is suing the city, the store manager and the Dollar General chain. Big surprise, huh? Odds are, they will settle out of court.
I personally don't think anyone was at fault (except maybe the Lt.). How was anyone supposed to know he was mentally handicapped and a deaf mute? If someone is in a public restroom in a store for an hour, wouldn't you be worried or suspect something? If anything, I blame the guy's family. I'm just surprised that Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton isn't here yet claiming it was a racist act, (and yes, he was black). Even if he were white, I would still say the family is a bunch of low lifes who see a chance to make easy money at the expense of their poor son (and their own greed).
So am I wrong? I seriously want to know your thoughts. Maybe there is something I am missing or have not thought of about this, ...but I don't think so!

Your thoughts?

As far as a family member not being there for him I think you have already answered the reason for that by your own words. I won't elaborate further.

Some people expect that 'village' to help them, when they should shoulder their own responsibility

Shoulder our own responsibility, now there is a novel idea.

Amen... My wife and I have seen people in a nationwide home improvement chain that had their kids (actually, probably grandkids.. ) in a shopping cart halfway down the lighting aisle away from these 'responsible adults'. A ~2 year old was standing in the higher part of the cart above a concrete floor. The guardians at the time really didn't seem concerned. My wife was ushering me to leave because she didn't want to see the kid fall onto the floor. Shortly after that we heard an announcement about watching your kids in shopping carts over the intercom. It seems that everyone noticed except them. Hmmm, imagine that...

No, I'm not surprised one bit!

You would not believe the people who send their kids to Kindergarden, without any knowledge of numbers, colors, even their last name. Both of my children and my grandchild knew most colors, all their numbers, and phone numbers.

That Red is because you describe a FAMILY, not a breeding group.

I hate this 'it takes a village to raise a child' crap. It takes a mother and father and maybe grandparents, with rules and expectations to raise a child. Lots of discipline, structure, morals and ethics.

But Red, that's not how to raise a good little Democrat.

Actually it is, there just aren't many 'good' democrats anymore. I am getting ready for the primaries right now. In Florida, you have to be a Democrat (or Republican) to vote in the respctive primaries.

Will the lists, for healthcare voters, be out there for us to re-locate them?

I would be very surprised if the alleged law suit isn't dismissed when it goes to court. But, the world having gone mad, it will not surprise me if they get a large settlement. Another example of the victimless crime mentality that thinks suing a large corporation or government has no effect on common people and many just don't care.

1 how long does it really take to drop a duece. really
2 a person that can put 2 and 2 together to realize that the cops and management want to know what the hell is going on should not be alone in a restroom. Some one with some mental capacity would have slipped the card out stating that he was a deaf/mute so others would understand.
I think Dollar general should counter suit the parents for negligence.

Oh, I'd believe it... Our Lieutenant Governor made a comment about that mentality of parental non-involvement recently and caused a stir. I just don't know why?...

Quote:
The controversy started after Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer likened government assistance to "feeding stray animals."
He said, "My grandmother was not a highly-educated woman, but she told me as a small child to quit feeding stray animals. You know why? Because they breed. You're facilitating the problem. If you give an animal or a person ample food supply, they will reproduce, especially ones that don't think too much further than that, and so what you gotta do is you gotta curtail that type of behavior. They don't know any better."....

Bauer later spoke about the comments during an interview at a GOP forum in Columbia.
"Clearly, we're breeding a culture of dependency not only in this state, but in this country," Bauer said. "Politicians for far too long have been too scared to talk about it because of it being politically incorrect. But we continually, generationally, now have people on government services that we never do anything as a government to try and get people off of them."
Bauer suggested solving the problem by taking tax-funded benefits from poor people if they don't pass drug tests. He also suggested cutting free school lunches to children if their parents don't attend parent-teacher conferences and become more active in their children's education.....
From http://www.wyff4.com/news/22326268/detail.html

He hit the nail on the head. Parents have to become involved to raise the children.

""He hit the nail on the head. Parents have to become involved to raise the children.""

Interesting concept, isn't that the way it is supposed to be? Shouldn't the parents be the first teachers? I want my progeny to know what's going on. They need to support me when I get old, like my parents did, and I did.

I don't want the government's help.

A novel concept indeed... There's too much else to focus on these days for some groups, like having fun and socializing (and if that means making more babies along the way then so be it)...
