I shoot most saturdays on a 200 meter Known Distance range at Ft Jackson SC. The range provide all the equipment (minus weapons of course) including spotting scopes, target frames, and silhouettes. I prefer to use my own targets and keep them in my shooting bag. Should I need to improvise a makeshift target I use a 8"x11" white copy paper, draw a cross (or an X) on it with a magic marker, and then stick a 1" or 2" orange target dot over the cross/X. If I run out of staples I use masking tape to afix the makeshift target to the silhouette. Should I not have my copy paper with me I just stick the orange dots directly onto the target silhouette.

Fireleggs,
The snuff cans are cool targets... This is what we are talking about. When the targets run out! What to use/

Hey Zane, that looks pretty neat. That man hole cover should get the job done.

That is neat Zane...
Speaking of saving trees. What we agreed at for our deer camp was to have our range by a natural ridge. We hired in a equipment operator who leveld a 100 x 75 yard area lined it with apple trees and then built our impact area and shooting platform. After 25 years of banging away on it. It was a great effort!

Well since I got it set up, Ive found a few .22 pieces about 2 feet out to the sides.
I also found (1) FMJ 9mm out to the side about 3' or so and thats about it. The .44mag lead nose is stopped instantly, also the .223 FMJ, .45acp FMJ, 30-06 ptsp, .357 Mag Hollow points and the 7mm REM Mag as well. The covers pretty well stops them all @ 75 yards.
