Help me decide, guys and gals. I'm getting the itch to get myself another "project" rifle to recondition and shoot. The problem is, I can't make up my mind which one to order! Classic has some really nice looking Mauser 24/47s and they are very cheap and quite tempting. Alas, they also have some "NRA excellent" Mosin 44s that peak my interest and are even cheaper than the Mausers. And to top it all off, they also have some very nice looking, walnut-stocked K-31 Swiss rifles for sale that should refinish very nicely indeed. Input welcome!

Well, I think I've decided. I'm going to go with a walnut-stocked Swiss K-31, but from AIM instead of Classic. I think I will also order up a Mojo aperture sight for the rifle. My other K31 has a scope mounted, so it will be nice to have one with iron sights as well. I plan to lightly refinish the stock, touch up the bluing as needed, and otherwise leave it as is. If it shoots as well as my first K31 I will be well satisfied.

If you can, get a St. Marie diopter rather than the Mojo. I know the Mojo is less expensive, but the St. Marie is SWEET. Clamp-on, too. Doesn't require tapping, drilling or any gunsmithing. Return-to-zero for the rear sight is a non-brainer. It's the front sight that takes some tweaking.

The St. Marie stuff isn't a copy of anything. The sniper scopes for the ZfK55 were clamp-on, yes, but they had a drilled and tapped set of mounts that the scope and rail-mount clamped to. See http://www.swissrifles.com/sr/sniper/ for details. The closest to a copy is the diopter, which is similar to, but not quite a copy of, the Type K diopter manufactured in Switzerland.
Grafs is the official distributor of the St. Marie line. They're also the best source for new brass, buying in bulk from Prvi Partizan. They used to have PP headstamp them "Grafs" but now they're just selling the PP stuff in bulk. |

Found them. Thanks, John. You're right, they're neat sights, but also rather expensive! Grafs does seem to have some neat stuff for the K-31s as well. I bookmarked the place for future reference.

An update, and thanks, JohnK3. You're close.
Our zfk55 mount is the first replacement mount for the zfk55 Sniper that allows the use of any scope in the world in lieu of the issue, integral Kern scope. The mount locks into the integral mount reciever thats actually a part of the manufactured receiver. ![]() ![]() ![]() Our k31 Diopter is the first one in the world that goes from 75 yards to 1,000 yards with no rail changes whatsoever. Our internal gear is now patented and is the only Diopter with a double buffer spring mechanism that allows full, smooth travel in all directions. ![]() ![]() This is our k31 Clamp On Scope Mount. ![]() ![]() zfk55 Last edited by zfk55; 04-02-2010 at 11:59 AM.. |
