As a follow up to my post earlier (rasonable priced 1911), I had some one locally respond to a wanted add on a local sale board, he has a STI "Spartan" for 550.00. Dont know anything about them......Are they reliable? Is the price fair for a used one? Not sure on this one at all.
I have never seen or been around one, can anyone here tell me about them?

Looks like an excellent pistol at a very reasonable price. But like the evaluator I think I would come to detest that take down process due to the full length guide rod. I personally would pass on the pistol for that reason only. I find no need for a FLG rod and no reason to put up with the hassle dealing with them. Easy take down of a traditional 1911 is one of it's great features and the FLG rod just destroys that. Only my $0.02 worth.

It only takes a couple of minutes to tear down a 1911 even with the FL guide rod. It can also be replaced with a standard guide rod if you feel the need. I wouldn't let this stop me from a good buy on a semi custom pistol.

I yield to and will agree with Shooter. I just got this thing with those FL rods. That looks like an excellent pistol in all other respects.

Just got home, mucth lighter in the walet than when I left, and from what I see and feel so far, I think it was a good buy! I think Im off to the range, since Im lighter in the wallet, I might as well lighten the ammo shelf a bit. Thanks for your help and input, I will let you know the results.
