Arcadia Machine and Tool started making 1911s back in the 70s. In the first Terminator movie, when Arnold went to the gunshop and tried to get a plasma rifle, and ended up with a Uzi and a shotgun and a "stainless longslide 45", that was an AMT. They made some good guns, and they made some crap. Quality control problems. They went out of business, and was bought and started again, and went belly-up again, and were bought again...
I've got a Commando. Decent gun, but nothing special. I paid 399 for it, in February of '99. I think, if someone wanted to give me 900 for it, I'd sell it purty quick, but I don't see that happening any time soon. If you are being offered both guns, for 900 (hard to tell from your post), that might not be a bad deal. But 900 for a Commando? No way. Unless he is throwing in that "few k of ammo". And even then, it would have to be at least 5K, for me, and several spare mags.

Both for 900, one "new in the box", and several thousand rounds of ammo? That sounds like a much better deal. Is the one that was "custom made for the ex owner of AMT" also a Commando, or is it a 45?

In that case, I'd take the deal. Two SS 1911's and scads'o budditts? Deal.
I enjoy the heck out of my Commando.
