Actually, the modified castle law took effect on 12/01/11

I watch these prison shows on tv,they show how the head of these gangs still run things outside while in prison. If they know how they do it then stop them. There should be no contact to the outside world at all.No visitors no phone calls. If a gang member is convicted as a crime its life in prison period.
And do what carver said make the prison all self suffecient and the crime would stop

Someone already mentioned dogs and I second that. A good family dog or two. I define family dog as large, protective for you and your family, not a pitbull type of dog. Pointers, cattle dogs, retrievers, watch dog, not attack dogs.

I have two small lapdogs, I don't expect them to protect me, only to warn me. As is typical with most ankle-biters, they have much larger mouths than their great big, heavyweight cousins like shepherds, etc. They're kinda like women- once they get to barkin', it's kinda hard to get em to stop.

The real sad thing about moving to a small town is now the small towns are experiencing crime. I deliver to small towns and the people out there say that daytime robberies are on the rise. Most small town people have dogs loose at night to bark at people. However, during the day when people are away, the thieves enter the place and strip it clean without any worry of the dogs. In one small town, the people tell me that low income residents are on the rise and some of the schools are populated with the gang bangers. I have seen that first hand. This is not something we can just pack up and move away from unfortunatly.

I went on a tour of the Old Yuma Prison. Now that's the system that should be in place. They had the lowest prisoner return rate of any prison in history. After somebody finished their sentence (usually about 2-5 years). Nobody ever wanted to go back.

I got to agree with what 76 was talking about.

Crime and gangs are not just limited to big towns these days. I live out in
the country myself and the nearest (very small town) is about 4 miles away.
And here, if you havent got a security system insatalled, you will get robbed
sooner or later.
I've been robbed (over the past 20yrs) 3 times. The 3rd time was when the
security was installed. I have alot of people that stop looking/asking for scrap
to collect of all the properties out in the area.

What they do these days, their just stopping in to befriend the dogs and scope
the places out! Plain and dang Straight out.
Which by the way, I dont let them past the fisrtsquestion....the answer is NO
and have a good day!
I've had way too many people stop by that are up to no good.

As far as gangs/groups, I live on the edge of a State Forest and to drive through
there, up until the past seveal years, was a major risk factor.
In the middle of no-where, they leave their sig's. on rocks, trash barrels and etc..
Crime and gangs are everywhere.
(i dont plan to have another break-in, but no one does. But I'm moreso
more up-to date and more aware then ever and with all the better precautions
set up.)

I live in a fenced in yard... a rottwheiller for an attention getter. .. burgular alarm for notification of an intruder... 12 gauge shotgun loaded with 00 bucks at arms reach of my bed... and a 40 cal - 17 shot pistol loaded with Hydra Shoks hanging on a mattress holster.. i always have my 38 S&W on my person 24/7... and i don't live in a high crime area..
i think it pays to be prepaired.. noone is assigned to protect my family so i do it...
the cops usually arrive just in time to call the coroner.. & clean up the mess

Here in Riverside County, you can expect a response time up to two hours unless it's a slow night. The Sheriff's department is under staffed and over worked.

I've called them to report small unsupervised children dashing down the streets on motorcycles and ATVs, blasting stop signs: No cops ever came.

I've reported trespassers into my neighbor's yard (neighbor not home): No cops ever came.

I've reported shots fired by a neighborhood kid that just got a rifle for Christmas: Cops showed up after two hours and wanted to know where he was. I had to make them understand that he wasn't going to stand around and wait! They asked questions in the apartment complex and left.

In short; you're on your own in Riverside County, but there will be hell to pay if you defend yourself.

That's sad Top. I've called the police a number of times about everything from a car fire (car thieves intentionally set it), to shots fired, to suspicious cars that park in front of my house where the occupant doesn't get out (smoking crack).

They have never failed to respond in a timely manner and have thanked me for calling. I thought maybe I was becoming a nuisance and they assured me I wasn't.

Maybe you all aren't paying enough taxes out there. Just kidding.

Anybody watch the movie District B13 on netflix. That's pretty much what they did. Good movie in my opinion even though it is subtitled. One of those movies that you turn up the volume when people in the room are talking even if u can't understand what the characters are saying cause it is interesting. Bunch of guns in it too
