that just has you licked. I picked up a little beretta jetfire 25 auto that had a broken recoil spring. Easy enough right. Paid 25 bucks for this spring, installed it, test fired it. Spring leg pops out the side of the frame. Reinstall spring with minor mods to the spring. Test fire. Same deal. Fix, test fire again. Sproing. Can't get it to do it by hand but it sure don't like them bullets

Shoot some pics showing how you have the spring attached, Break it down completely, post pics of that as well.
Someone might be able to figure out where it's going wrong from the pics ![]()

One reason I avoid Euro guns. Parts pricing and availability of information are others.

When I broke it down to replace the spring, the internals hardly looked used. I gave the guy the benefit of the doubt that maybe he was very meticulous about cleaning it but when I gave it back to him the second time, He tries to remove the slide but has absolutely no idea how to do it, so he start yanking and pulling on it and lets it go and it flies off the frame, that shot that theory down. I was done, I already spent way to much time on it. ![]()

Is the spring the old dual spring type or the new type with one round spring working both sides and the latch as well? I have seen the former break, not the new type.
Can you do some pictures? Jim |

new type that also works the latch. I should have gotten some photos first after the first failure. What would happen is that when the gun was shot, the right leg of the spring would fall out of the slot in the slide and end up protruding out the top forward side of the grip when the slide returned.Right about where your index finger sits when you grip the gun. I could never get it to pop out when I cycled by hand let it snap shut. This is the same side that was broken so something was going wrong beyond just a broken spring. I thought I didn't set a grip panel right b/c they retain the spring in place but they were all set just fine. He was stress'n b/c the spring was 30 bucks, wait till he gets the bill from Beretta if they even want to fix it.

It sounds like that end of the spring is too short, so it jumps out of the slide when the slide is all the way back.
First make sure the end that tensions the barrel catch is installed properly. Then if that is OK, try taking a pair of heavy pliers and bending that side upward where it comes out of the frame so the end of the spring sits higher. You might have to do the same to both sides to balance things. Jim Last edited by Jim K; 05-05-2010 at 01:14 PM.. |
