More homemade grips

I didn't want to clutter up Woodnut's thread with these, but I thought they were worth showing off since I had my macro lens on the camera.

These are the grips that came on my basket-case PT1911.
I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure they're homemade since there are some inconsistencies in the thickness of the two panels where the palmswell is carved in, there are a few little hiccups in the checkering, and lots of rough toolmarks on the inletting for the plunger tube & ambi safety lever.

Normally, the slimline grips fit my hand better but this palmswell design really feels sweet. I wouldn't mind a similar set for my Springfield...I would prefer ironwood or ebony to match it better though. I could do the grips myself but I would have to farm out the checkering.

Does anyone know if there are any grips out there on the market like this?

I am not sure if there is anything like that on the market or not, but I sure would like to get some measurements off of them. I think they would sell really well, and I would love to make a set and a pattern for them.

No problem sharing the dimensions. but like the rest of the pistol, these are a bit on the ugly side...just wouldn't fit in with some of those sweeties you are showing off!

The center dip seem to be just freehand carved, there is a bit of variation in dimensions to the angle on the right and left panels. If you look at the bottom pic here, you can see the difference between the right and left panels.
The dip falls right under my middle finger. I can get a real nice grip with my skinny fingers.

18lpi checkering with the usual double-diamond pattern. Has a few angle errors and a few flattened tips.
I don't have a way to measure the radius of the face, but it looks like it started out as just the standard profile. It got chewed down a bit further on a couple spots on one panel compared to the other...probably had the checkering re-cut in those spots to fix boo-boos.

I could be wrong but I think those are the contoured (CTG) series from Navidrex. I just bought a double diamond set from Brownells for a customer that has small hands and has a Kimber Ultra Carry. They look just like that except they don't have that nasty grain or oil line through them. There only 18 bucks.

Looks similar. I don't see that they've got any options besides Micarta, Ebony, or Diamondwood/Pakkawood (yuck...cheap wood, epoxy, and dye...I never did like the stuff but it is tough.)

The more I look at mine, I'm pretty sure they're a homebrew job...way too many boo-boos in the checkering to have passed QA at even those cheap Chinese factories!
These look like they're made of a rather plain Rosewood...that dark splotch on the back of the panels is the figure in the wood, not oil staining.

They may be, the ones I got are mahogany and are pretty dense and well done, no boo boo's in these but they have the similar shape

Thanks so much for sharing the dimensions of the grips, I may have to try a set of them in the near future. I am leaving town Friday and will return on June 9, so it will be a while before I have the time to devote to it. I will be sure to post some pictures of them when and if I can build them.
