Iver Johnson .32 Dating - The Firearms Forum

Good Morning all. I picked up this old Iver Johnson .32 in a trade. I am obvioulsy aware that the value isn't as much as one would think. Most think that just because a firearm is old, it holds lots of value. Mine is not in the best of shape, but hey, its 100 years old. I would like some help in dating mine and just finding out any information. The serial number on the trigger guard reads 39610. The serial number under the grip reads S128. Also, safe to fire smokeless or stick with black powder. Thanks to everyone

It's a 2nd model made in 1907 for black powder .32 S&W ammo. I think the serial may be 1282, which doesn't change date.

The trigger guard is mismatched, and if you remove the cylinder by unscrewing counter-clockwise, there should be a serial number under top strap also.

Modern smokeless powder will not likely destroy the gun, but will rapidly loosen the lockup.
