Default Deer Hunting 2011

I haven't seen any posts of too many people with their deer yet so I though I would kick it off with my story. (unstretched)

Nov. 20, 2011

My dad and I arrived at the land we were hunting at about 7:30am and split directions like we normally do. I told him I was going to the south set of woods that is about 500yrds from the truck. I decided that I was going to follow the creek and since I dont normally go that way I followed the game trail that heads to that south patch. I followed the trail about 300 yrds and seen a head pop up in front of me and I pulled my bead on its head and thought that it may hop up and give me a better shot at the chest, but the second I pushed the safety off it made a quick jump towards the creek. As soon as it jumped I took the shot and it went cartwheeling to the ground. I dont even think its feet ever touched the ground again. I guess shooting trap helped this deer hunt!

Ended up with a pretty decent 10 Pointer!

Good Luck Everyone!! Be Safe!!

Nice buck, they grow some good ones in WI. We have a lot of deer here in WV but the racks are nicer in your part of the country. CONGRATULATIONS

Luv seeing the picts, my friends upriver in dawson have deer in their yards and yet we don't have whitetails here 4 miles from the border in Alaska. When I grew up back east, we'd get with all the local neighbors and drive deer outta the swamps and thick junk; had all kinds of fun for a week or two and miss those good times. Good deal on the buck.

We do have some pretty good deer in the area, but nothing like we used to. For quite some time we have been in the CWD/Herd Eradication Zone and are allowed unlimited doe tags and some people think that means target shooting. They shoot a dozen deer and then the meat rots in the freezer. I normallly go out and shoot one because its only my dad and myself that eat venison.(with the exception when I make some chilli or spaghetti...they'll never know). Herds have been depleted something fierce. Gov. Walker passed a couple new bills that will hopefully bring the herd back some.

Dad hasnt fared well yet this year. We didnt go out yesterday since we spent most of the time with my deer and he wants to find a new CCW gun so we browsed around for one of them.

Thanks for all the comments. Im doing a classic european mount and now im on a mission for a nice piece of burl to put it on.

I guess my original intention for this thread was for others to post pictures from their hunts, succesful or not, it is still fun to share great stories. I know I failed to mention this in my OP and I apologize. So for those of you out there with your recent hunt photos, lets get em up here!!!

these are memories from the last 6 seasons, I took them down from the shed to move them to the hunting shack and took a photo in case the squirrels chew them up. The adrenaline still flows when I look at them.

Tough year hunting.....weird weather and strange rut activity. Hunting in pouring rain one day then 10" of snow the next. Got this one with bow, girth measurement puts him at 325 lbs live weight. Not the biggest rack, but he had plenty of "beef" on the bone.

I killed some does in Rocksprings with my Savage 99 in .243. Good, tasty venison.

Nice bucks guys, especially that yankee bruiser. What a beautiful chili buck!!
