Last month the world's attention turned to the Gaza Strip, as Israeli forces stormed a six-ship flotilla carrying relief supplies to Gaza, which has been held under blockade by Israel for the last three years. Nine passengers were killed in the violent clash.

But while the cameras have since moved on and international attention has waned, the people of Gaza remain under a blockade that is crushing the 1.4 million men, women and children trapped inside an area the size of Rhode Island.

Call for the end of the blockade now

The blockade is a form of collective punishment in clear opposition to international law. It does not target armed groups but rather punishes Gaza's entire population by restricting the entry of food, medical supplies, educational equipment and building materials.

The result has been devastating: mass unemployment, extreme poverty and food price rises caused by shortages have left four in five Gazans dependent on humanitarian aid.

Unsurprisingly, the brunt of the impact falls most heavily on those most vulnerable among Gaza's people: children, the elderly, and the sick.

Since more than half of Gaza's population is made up of children, the majority of those punished have nothing to do with the broader conflict. This misdirected punishment must end.

Urge the Obama administration to push for ending the blockade of Gaza now

I think bicycles is the 2nd highest cause of children's accidental deaths.

I'm sure it will be the next one on the list.

Didn't they vote in Hamas?

And they expected what from voting in a terrorist organization? Did they think that overnight they were going to be welcomed? I haven't changed mind about the PLO, but what do I know?

When Hamas, whom they selected to speak for them by attacking towns in Israel, murdering and kidnapping it's soldiers the citizens of Gaza have no one but themselves to blame for their troubles.

Of course, you have to make allowances that anyone who ran in opposition to Hamas was murdered along with as many of their family as they could catch.

The Obama administration could take lessons from Hamas on winning elections. They seem to have already started with Attorney General Holder protecting armed thugs at the polls in the last election. The November elections should be a lot of fun in the Blue Cities.
