Just thought of something else -

The reason the deer's "body" looks so strange is that is just the hide attached to the head. It had been folded up with the head on top and then it froze that way. I tried to stretch him back out into something resembling his former self, but obviously without much success!

As one slackjawed type to another, congrats on a fine snow kill with a snowmobile bumper...we all know you had that black powder rifle mounted on the windscreen with a heads up display targeting feature.
