I'm no gunsmith but I do like to tinker with guns.
I'd like to adjust the trigger on my Howa 1500 for take-up/creep and pull weight. Does anybody know if there's an illustrated instruction manual, member made or factory, for this rifle/trigger? Sort of a "Triggers for Dummies" type of thing. Any help would be appreciated!

The Howa trigger is like most others and appears to be adjustable from the schematic. Screw 24 in the front of the trigger assembly is the trigger pull level adjustment. Screw it out and the pull level decreases. Screw 28, at the rear of the trigger assembly, is the sear engagement adjustment that minimizes the creep in the trigger pull. Screwing it in reduces the sear engagement. Unless you are knowing of triggers I suggest you leave the sear engagement as factory adjusted. But if you do adjust it be sure to have adequate engagement so that the edge of the trigger engagement surface and the edge of the sear are not just jammed against each other. Adjusted that way the gun is extremely unsafe. Part of the adjustment procedure should be a "Bump Test". You bump the stock vertically against the ground (don't bang the gun against the ground but give it a pretty good bump) to be sure the gun does not fire. Obviously you do the test with the gun unloaded! LDBennett |

armedandsafe and The Rifleman,
That's a big "DUH" on my part! Never occurred to me to post the info. 50 lashes with a wet bore-snake for being selfish! I guess I thought..no replies...no interest. Anyway, thanks for the responses! I got the how-to info by Googleing " adjusting howa triggers". Several links had the same info. The pix were of the same schematic exploded view that LDBennett posted. Turns out it is the same one that's in my owners manual. Again a big "DUH" on my part! Thanks LD, now I really feel stupid! LOL. Seriously, thanks to you all for your interest and helpful insights. I have not tried the adjustment yet but will post the results when I do. Thanks again! |
