Every time I go to the gun store I wind up looking at the 3" wheel guns.
I already had a 3" model 19-4, a 3" model 64, and a relatively new 3" model 629. I just now bought a Ruger SP101 in 357 magnum with the 3.06" barrel. It was just sitting there in the used case for $389.00 I fired 80 .357 magnum Hornady loads and 100 Magtech .38 SPL loads. Not a problem! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKEKrJMAQV8 And I am amazingly more accurate with it than my 1.875" model 638; even with full house 357 Mag loads. This is a 15 yard group with 158 grain Hornady XTP loads:

Very nice. Try some Hogue grips on it. Much easier on your hand.

3" wheel guns have always been a sweet spot for me. Congrats on the new Ruger. That is a nice gun, and a nice shooter if it is anything like the ones I have shot in the past.

Yup. Couldn't agree more. I knew I wanted a .357, and recognized the Dan Wesson name as quality. Didn't know they made a 3", and turns out it's a less-common fixed barrel gun. The DW FB715 has turned out to be the perfect combination of size/weight and accuracy. Superb trigger, shoots better than I do, and the recoil from magnum loads feel like 9mm.

I seem to have aquired a number of 3" to 3 1/2" guns lately. Started with a 3" Ruger sp101. I have added a fiber optic front site. Then came a S&W model 36, and just inherited a 3 1/2 inch S&W model 27-2, and a 3" "and Wesson". The last gun started life as a 6" K-38. Someone blew up the barrel, and had it cut to 3", recrowned, and front sight moved. Nice gun.

I prefer 4" to 4.5" barrels on the 357 mag. I never could shoot very well with the snubbies....

I just looked in on this thread again and thought of the old Ruger Security Six in .357 for some reason. I would really like to get my hands on another one of those, if I could find one at a good price.

Me too! I love the 3" revolvers! Here is my S&W M65 3". It has extensive work done to it. It has the hammer bobbed yet retains the single-action capability of the arm. It is ported the trigger had the surface smoothed... perfect size!

Nice 65, K75RT.
I think the 3" barrel is the best balancing act between shootability and concealability.

I have a stock Ruger GP100, too. It's a great CC weapon, but a little heavy.
I mostly carry the Ruger SP101, .2.25". You have a very nice looking GP100.

Yes, but I like the original grips better since I have smallish hands!

I love my 3 inch small frame revolver! It balances out so much better then a 2 inch. It conceals easier then a 4 inch. It shoots almost as accurately as the 4 inch too. Only bad thing about it is only 5 rounds, but those 5 rounds go where I want them to! I carry it loaded with 357 mag and carry 38 spl+P in stripper clips.
