I once had a 6mm/06 but it was a gun that the previous owner fancied as a target rifle and he had it chambered so tight that you had to turn the necks on each case. I thought about just running a standard sized 6mm/06 reamer in the chamber and decided while I was doing that I would pep it up a bit so I bought a 6mm/284 reamer and made it a real coyote killer adding about 200 fps. The only down side is 284 brass is not as cheap as 06 brass nor as easy to come by.

I looked at a 240 weatherby but the price of ammo and the price of brass scared me away...lol

In my opinion the 284 case is a much better choice. Huntingtons in Oriville Ca sells brass and its not really that expensive. The 240 Weatherby has that dam belt and is very expensive. Also, while I am not sure, I don't think there is a lot of difference in case capacity between the two, if any.
Ron Update: the 284 case is bigger, it has a case capacity of 66 grains to the 240 weatherby of 63.1. Last edited by muddober; 10-10-2010 at 11:39 PM.. |
