Have a cheap knockoff of the infamous bottom ejector, all steel, rifle sights, 20" barrel and full choke. Slings buckshot, in 3" or 2 3/4" and makes a tight pattern to 40 yards. My cheap beater does the job and if it gets brused, who cares. Synthetic stock to boot. My inyard hog slayer.

There aren't too many bottom ejector designs; I know of one. If the 'knock off', is a direct copy of it's progenator, the Ithaca, tell us in plain english.
The Ithaca design has worked, for 68 years, and at the least, deserves to be recognized, as excellent! Please reply, and fill in the blanks, for us.

Hello, i am new to this forum and as you can see by my forum name, I feel the venerable Ithaca 37 is the finest pump shotgun ever made.
I own 2, the first one I got was in 1973 as a present for entering high school. My father paid $80 for it, and it was in excellent condition. It is a 20 gauge featherlight, corn cob pump handle, 28" mod choke and it was made in 1959. A few years ago the stock devolved a small crack. At the Syracuse NY gun show the Ithaca vendor sold me a new one. I don't care for it as much as the original, but it does the job. I have used this shotgun for pheasent and squirrel hunting and this is my favorite gun. The 2nd is a 12 gauge Deerslayer which my father also purchased in the late 80's for $100 from a co-worker who didn't take very good care of it. Mechanically it was in great working condition, but it was rusted and pitted. Made in 1973, it is a 26" smoothbore with a 2.5 power scope. This is my #1 deer gun, as in the area I hunt in NY is shotgun only. Last year I drove up to King's Ferry NY to the Ithaca factory and had a rifled slug barrel put on, and the gun re-blued. With the new barrel it can fire either 2.75" or 3" slugs. It is now in excellent condition. Now for the sad part, as Ithaca has ceased production it will be almost impossible to have a 20" smoothbore barrel put on the 20 gauge as it is a low serial #. Hopefully someone or another company can buy out Ithaca and keep the tradition alive. thanks |

I have a Mossberg 835 with both 24" and 28" barrels. It's a beast to carry but I've used it for everything from Geese to Deer to Pheasant. I'd never give it up.

Just added a 1300 BlackShadow 28" to the collection.
I'd like to try some grouse hunting with this gun, and maybe rabbit while the cover is still up. If it patterns up well it could become my new Turkey gun. Might make a good trapp gun in the off season. It is amazingly easy to clean.

i have the mossberg persuader combo package made in 1990, it came with the 20in heatshield barrel with the synthetic pistolgrip and synthetic pump handle, it also came with a 28in vented rib choke tube barrel with the hardwood stock and pump handle. works pretty well, i aldo have an original winchester model 1897 pump made in 1919 that serial numbers to an early trench gun, wish i had the heat shield, would make it worth a lot more money. like the winchester better but thats because it is old and a part of history.

I own no semis and only two slide actions, a Mossberg 500E .410 and a S&W 916 12ga. Working part time in a gun shop though has allowed me to use many brands and models of both actions. Although I have no favorite slide action design I do find the 870's action to be smoother than the 500's.
I guess owning nine different double guns in 10, 12 and 16 gauges shows my interest leans toward them. |

I am thinking seriously about acquiring a Stoeger double SxS coach gun in 12 gauge with double triggers. Has anyone had some experience with or heard some feedback on these? I can't really define why I want one other than to say I've loved the old double SxS since I was a kid. In fact, I took my first ever jack-rabbit with one, an old Fox double that belonged to my grandfather, when I was 10 or so.

Pistolen,
A man after my heart with an interest in SXSs. I just love those hammers! It happens that eight of the nine doubles I own are old hammer SXS shotguns including an 1878 Colt's 12ga; an 1882 E. Remington & Sons 10ga; an 1869 Westley Richards 12ga coach gun; and an 1890s engraved Belgium 16ga. (The odd gun out is an O/U 12ga Browning Citori White Lightning Grade III.) My deer gun - My "famous" tRusty Takedown Winchester 97 riot with 18.5" barrel and a BIG brass bead. (and SOME patina
) Inherited from my wife's grandfather when he died. Best slug gun I've ever shot! There just might be some pics of it somewhere on this site with one of the bucks I killed with it years ago, maybe even my "double" with it... My squirrel gun (when I also have a scoped Glenfield 75C slung on my back)- A Savage 220 single 12ga. 28*mod (my sweet wife bought for me for Xmas years ago when she heard me mention "I saw a shotgun a the gunshop just like the one my dad taught me on when I was 11..." Who SAYS they don't listen to us...) My bird gun - a Remington 16ga 28" mod Sportsman 48 (I have to borrow it from my son, since HE inherited it from my Dad after he died.) ( I'm kind of hoping he forgets it's behind the door in his old room, which is now our "computer room!")
