Default .458 socom

Finally had the opportunity to try my RRA LAR458 on deer, vs paper, Thanksgiving day. Got a small spike at about 65 yds. Rifle sighted at 125yds. Shot hit about 1" above point of aim. Very little bruising but bullet took out almost 2" of spine and mangled one lung. Deer went down like it was poleaxed dead on the spot. Using a handload consisting of a 300gr Hornady JHP over 30gr of Hogdin 'Lil Gun' in starline brass w/ Winchester LP primer. Book velocity approx. 2000fps. Rifle and ammo more than lived up to my expectations.

P.S. I am a meat hunter. I have never taken anything that even remotely looked like a trophy. Not many trophy bucks in my neck of the woods anyway. sorry no pics. My camera took a vacation.

I always like hearing reports on how a cartridge works.

I use that projectile at just under 1200fps from a single shot 45LC pistol with 10" . Never put one in a deer yet though.

Thanks for the info..
