Savage model 24 V-A

I have a Savage Model 24 V-A in 20 Ga/ 222 Rem. I want to rechamber it to 556/223 to be able to shoot more common ammo with my ARs. I have read some on the Savage 24 forum about the bbl twist rates being the same and also being different. I would welcome advice on rechambering from 222 Rem to 556/223 and the affect of the twist rate.

Actually twist rate is only part of the problem. Going to a 223 from a 222 cartridge has its own issues such as case length. The neck of the 222 is longer so many just think of it as just reaming out the chamber to a 223. Not so easy. The issue is that the case at the shoulder of the 222 is wider than the 223. Therefore just reaming out the chamber will leave a shoulder in the chamber. To fix this the barrel will also have to be set back and re-headspaced.
Now to the twist. 223 has bullet weights from 45 to 80g. These weights like a 1:9 or 1:12 (for the lighter weights) If your barrel is not in one of those twist rates its going to have a issue stabilizing.
Also note. 223 and 5.56 though dimensionally the same are different in pressures. Shooting a 5.56 in a barrel designed for the 222 pressures will cause some uglyness.
