i have a old bruno bolt action 22
Its never given me a problem until recently the gun wont hold a zero via the scope.
I have replaced the scope silencer and it wont zero. I have tryd 3 different types of ammo shot it with out the silencer. Cleaned the barrel . Do you think the barrel has given up ?

What type of scope and rings have you got on the rifle?

doubt it... .22 rimfire barrels are good for literally thousands and thousands of rounds, maybe even millions because lead simply isnt hard enough to wear the barrel out. My guess is the scope is bad or your mounts/rings are loose. The scope has internal springs that keep the diopter aligned and pressed hard aganst the adjustment turrets, over time these springs weaken and can break or become too weak to hold true zero. (incidentally this is why I prefer Burris scopes, they use double springs) if the mounts/rings are loose the scope is bouncing to a different spot after each shot causing your next shot to be off from the first one. one fix requires a new scope, the other requires some tightening of screws or replacemant of rings/bases...

My brother had the same problem with an old Weaver. Took it to a shop to have it bore sighted and it turned out that the scope went bad. If you tapped the end of the scope the cross hairs jumped.

it has a hawk scope on it with single screw mounts . I will put a set of my other rifle on it to see if the scope is to blame thanks all.

i have sorted the problem . The front scope mount was worn through years of attaching i suppose the scope was moving. Thanks for your help
