22lr blowout

I was shooting my 22lr couple month ago and I had a bullet to blowout the back. Of the bullet my gun started smoking. I was wondering if anybody else has had this happen

Need a bit more info, type of rifle and condition and under what conditions you were shooting under.
Also if you still have the 22lr case a pic of it would be very helpfull.

I have a winchester model 490 that had a slght bend in the firing pin. When it got really dirty the dirt resticted the firing pin's rear movement causing a slam fire situation.

I had some Bulk ammo do this in an old Stevens single shot. I believe I was shooting Thunderbolts too to be honest. What ammo were you useing?

As grcsat stated, a good pic would be very helpful! I had one do that here a while back while shooting my Nylon 66. If you can get a good pic of the .22lr casing and post it, it'll tell alot.

to answer your question. no i've never had anything like that happen. i've had a rifle vent gas through the back of the bolt into my face.. but it didnt blow the cases

My gun is a winchester 190 it was only the back of the shell blow And the bullet still fire the gun is in good shape the ammo was about over 20 year old I didn't know it was that old it was I don't know who made the ammo all it has on it is a u on it

u means it was made by remington UMC. it should be okay to shoot even if its old unless its corroded. i dont think a winchester 190 is known for problems like this. i would say you had an out of battery firing

Most 22s are built with a degree of headspace. In addition, the powder charge of bulk ammo can vary greatly. So if you have headspace and the firing pin contacts the rim and pushes it forward and away from the closed bolt face, this causes a gap of some degree. Now the round fires, the wall of the cart expands and holds to the chamber wall and the end can rupture or blow off.

They was corroded pretty bad I kind of think it was a bad ammo because I fired about 15 round before it happened

More than likely, just the bad ammo. Mine as I metioned above, was more-so due to the ammo that had been dropped into some gravel and "denting" the caseing of sorts. FWIW, I watch closely the ammo I use in any firearm...any doubts, dont use it!
