I have aquired an Iver Johnson,s Arms & Cycle Works 5 shot revolver Serial # H 83977. I am trying to determine the caliper and if ammo is availiable for it. There are no caliper stampings on it that I can see. How does one go about determining the caliper?
Thanks, Ken

They VERY BEST way is to take the pistol to a reputable gunsmith and have the 'Smith not only determine the caliber, but also the pistols suitability for firing, given its relative age and condition. Certainly, a friend who is VERY knowledgeable about firearms could help you establish the caliber, but keep in mind, you are dealing with a very old firearm, and one that MAY not be sound for firing.
