Talking 1917 Remington Mosin Nagant 91/30

I have a Remington 91/30 Mosin dated 1917, and I need to know if the rear sight would be measured in Arshins, or Meters? It has a ladder type rear sight marked on the side from 4-12, and if you raise the ladder it reads from 13-32. I have no idea what the range marks indicate, and could really use some help. How many arshins in a yard, and how many meters in a yard. I hope to get a round on paper at least, without wasting too much ammo. Thanks in advance: Mr. Greg

I strongly believe that all the Russian produced rifles were calibrated in Arshins (standard tread of a Russian Infantryman) until the upgrade to 91/30's. If that is true, then it would be logical for all the French and American made MNs to have the same sights - to avoid confusing the grunts - who already had too many things on their mind.

A bit of trivia about the Mosin Nagants; As originally manufactured, Russian M91 rifles were sighted in for shooting with a bayonet attached. In old copies of THE RIFLEMAN I have seen images of USSR competitors shooting 91/30 rifles with bayonets attached at the range.
