I always wanted an all Stainless government model 1911. I have 5 others; three are blued one is two-tone and the other is a stainless defender. All are Colts but one and I think I'd another non-colt 1911, just for something different. I want to keep it single stack though. Also, I don't have a preference for or against FLGRs or internal vs. external extractors (as long as it works).
The Smith is the new "E" Series that is a series 70 style with a FLGR requiring a bushing wrench. The Dan Wesson is also a series 70 but with a GI guide rod. The Para is a series 80 style (I think?) with a FLGR requiring a bushing wrench. I looked at some Springfields but I dislike the allen wrench take down procedure. Here are the ones I can't choose between: Attachment 43555 Attachment 43556 Attachment 43557

After reading this month's Guns and Ammo magazine about the Smith Enhanced models, it would definately be the S&W.

All are good. I chose the Dan Wesson because I think of those three choices it is the best. I would have to add Springfield to the equation as a solid choice to consider.

I only voted for "Something else" because I dont know a thing about your other choices. I only know about the Springer TRP that I have. So my vote is the TRP.
However, your other options are SWEET!

The new smith e-series is nice. I am looking for the sc commander myself. Smith retooled their maine plant for these. Sweet. Dealer price on the commander is a grand, msrp around 1250.00

I voted Smith Wesson for purely aesthetic reasons. Love those grips!
FWIW I have an older Smith stainless and the FLGR is no inconvenience. I just take the bottom of the magazine, depress the spring holder, turn the bushing sideways and walla! It's really something that doesn't require the wrench. (I have one, I never use it) They are all beauties though. Tough decision! |

I was surprised it was so cheap as well. That's the problem I am having. If I was rich I'd buy them all. ![]()

For a thousand dollars why not go with the Kimber trg mdl
http://www.kimberamerica.com/1911/cu...less-target-ii I had voted for the S&W because of the choices you had and then i got to thinking about your last line "what else" I like the kimber.n Real smooth trigger and the gun is real tight. QUALITY.

i agree with kimber as a choice. and i don't like external extractors and feel they certainly do NOT belong on a pistol claiming to be a 1911, so the smith is out as far as i'm concerned

I really can't say much about the others but my "something else" pick is Kimber. I have two now, one a stainless Custom model and the other an Ultra CDP II. I have had no issues with either one. The Ultra CDP II has about 6500 rounds through it and the Custom about 5000. The only times that either has malfed was when I was adjusting bullet seating depth on new reloads.

I got to shoot a S&W Enhanced today at the range, POA was excellent but other than that it didn't impress me over my Sig. It also had a compensator on it which made it nicely balanced but very loud in the indoor range. If I were really looking for a 1911 I would pass on the S&W for that kind of money there are far better guns out there.

Go with a kimber great guns and will retain there value or maybe even be worth more. Fires better than any other 1911 I've ever shot.
