Default 14.000 killings in 2010

A short story. I have always been a supporter of the right of any man or woman to keep and bear arms for sport and self defense and I was really puzzled at how low some american congressmen can go to add a vote.

Living in Venezuela for over forty years I learned that in a country with vast uninhabited territories, a handgun, a rifle or a shotgun were as important as drinking water. This tradition goes back to the 15th or 16th centuries. Until now law abiding people bear guns openly or slightly covered by a light coat or guayabera. Licenses are relatively easy to obtain if you don't have a legal record of violence. In other words we have the nod of the goverment.

But a few years ago, the president declared on TV that it would not be a crime for a man to rob if he needs money to feed his family. Well that declaration unleashed the devil of violence. If it were for food may be some would tolerate it. From nowhere, favela and slum bullies took over the cities. According to goverment speakers, 14.000 thousand people were murdered in 2010. More than 95 % en the hand of bands; the most tragic fact is that the overwhelming majority of the dead come from the poorest levels of the population. In a population of around 22 million, there are over 7 million firearms. The situation is so desperate and life so cheap, that hoodlums would present at a party or picnic and shoot all the presents. In the funeral of one of those animals, members of a rival band took over the funeral parlor, shot again the body y the casket plus five or six of the mourners.

The constitution, here declares that the government has the duty to protect peoples propery and physical integrity, some kind of Utopia and I believe it applies in the U.S. "You can't find a policeman when You need him" or "the police always are late".

Unless governments take seriously their duties to protect You and me and effectively do it, we should not even worry about what a politician declares or how others distort The Constitution and the Law. They should go after the criminal. The first wars were fought with sticks and stones not firearms; I don't need a license to protect my family and my property. after being a Lawyer for almost forty years, I am convinced that Natural Law that have protected us since birth, is the fairest ever. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.

We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
The men who wrote our Declaration of Independence wanted all men, then and in the future, to know that God gave us certain rights, and no government or man could take them away. They were talking about the laws of Nature and Nature's God.

Cousin's husband had a company involved with fiber optic cable installation across El Salvador about 8-10 years back; he loved it down there. This guy's addiction/hobby was fishing; he even came to Alaska a couple times went fishing with us. His family lived in Florida but he spent half the year in El Salvador, even bought several businesses there. He told me that crime got very bad down there too; he gave up and moved back to Florida about 5-6 years back; said it wasn't worth living like that.

Here in Alaska, no crime to speak of. In Indian Villages, they all suffer from alcoholism and related problems but it doesn't affect where the Whites or most Alaskans live. Yet I wonder as our fiscal economy and the social fabric of our Nation degrades; will we experience the same problems? It seems unfathomable, but just look at the U.S Southern Border?

We had a neighbor, lived in Alaska thirty some years, retired, sold his place and moved to Guatamala. His wife and him were working on their boat, several locals swam out hacked him to death with machetes; they got a couple hundred bucks. True story, I still wonder what possessed my neighbor to leave Alaska in the first place?

And I do believe politicals are corrupt all over, a common theme for sure.

Wild Cat, I have not heard this before. Did Hugo Chavez make this declaration? Which year did he say this?

Fair and effective enforcement of law based on constitutional principles which include the right of people to be secure in their lives and personal possessions is key to a peaceful society. Just as in your country, the U.S. has undergone political changes which has undermined the constitution and our system of justice.

Some social engineers want to blame crime on poverty and lack of opportunity. They have managed to brainwash entire generations to think this way and abandon Judeo-Christian concepts of right and wrong and personal responsibility in favor of socialist beliefs that everyone is entitled to have wealth and possessions equal to everyone else. This spawns an entitlement mentality in many who are dependent on government that redistributes wealth, and a criminal element that justifies in their own minds the commission of crimes of violence in order to enrich themselves.

If societies are to return to peace and civility they must first begin with their educational systems, rooting out and exposing those marxist principles and their advocates for what they are. Lies and Liars. This is a difficult task when one finds himself feeling surrounded by the enemy. Even more so when realizing that many of these so called intellectuals have hidden behind their soft spoken and gentle demeanors the hearts of tyrants. But once this is accomplished we will have started on the road to healing our nations and our societies by enabling us to plant the seeds of logic and ethics in the minds of future generations. Until then all we have at our disposal is our God given right to self defense.

A local who lives in our rural community here along the Yukon once traveled across South America in an old VW years ago; always telling us stories about his exploits. I remember he said the most important aspect to ensure one's safety (as an American) was to look as poor and penniless as possible, ha. I was telling him your story and he said that gasoline was super cheap in Venezuela; was 30 cents/gal back when he drove through many years back. Ha, this guy now has a gas station here, gas is $4.60/gal and going up.

14,000 murders in a country of 22 million would be equivelant to 200,000 murders in the United States. That's terrifying.

The shooter's Asociation of Venezuela to which I belong since 1966, has already trained over 30.000 members of whom I guess 8000 are still active. With rudimentary equipment and very inventive members we have managed to survive. And we try to teach each other.

But how can we protect our children who are exposed everyday to violence at the hands of merciless bandits? We pray and ask the Lord to bring them back safe every day. This is a hostage people with no light at the end of the tunnel.
