I am building my first custom 1911. I own many and love the platform so it is time for me to go and do it the right way

I have chosen the Caspian slide and a LesBaer frame. As far as the barrel, recoilspring, and guide rod I am going with a kit from clark custom guns. So my question is what else would be suggested to make this a top shelf piece??

Fred Kart produces an excellent NM barrel. Money well spent. A BoMar adj rear sight will come in handy if you are going for accuracy.
Make sure all the internals are fitted correctly and it should be a real tack driver.

Have you mated the slide and frame yet?

I have an article you need to read. Its an article on building NM pistols for competition and alot of the processes and procedures are explained within. Ill email you the pdf files, whats your email addy?

Building 1911s is fun and rewarding. I cant wait to do another!

A tight frame / slide fit increases accuracy by 2%. And that's with everything else perfectly fitted.

I haven't bought the slide or frame yet just have them sitting in the internet shopping carts waiting. hahaha

Mated frame / slides can be purchased from Les Baer, STI and a few others but they aren't cheap.

But, it sort of takes some of the fun out of your build.

I just bought a slide from STI for a rebuild on a colt frame. Its top notch. Also Ive been getting barrels from 2 places and both have proved to be top notch. Clark and Wilson Combat. EGW makes some of the nicest sears I've seen along with their bushing.

i might have a spare barrel drag. Could save you some money... Its a wilson, no bushing, no link. will need to be fitted

The latest caliber or gear is no substitute for experience and skill. Rifles and cartridges don't make hits -- shooters do. Fact of life: After Monday and Tuesday, even the calendar says WTF!
