Picked up a GEW 98 Mauser, rebarreled in .243, and I'd like to redo the magazine for easier loading and feeding. Anyplace to find helpful hints? I'm sure this has been done before, but I'm not having any luck finding info.

I am not sure what the problem is. For the most part, Mauser 98s will feed OK with .308 Winchester and .243 with little or no change to the feed rails and ramp. You can even use Mauser stripper clips if there is no scope and the clip guide is intact.
What problems are you having? Jim |

I just wanted to make the size closer to .243, for easier loading and feeding.

The .243 and the 8mm Mauser are the same base size, but the .243 is shorter than the 8mm. The .243 rounds may move forward in the magazine on firing, but that usually doesn't caluse any problem. Shortening the magazine will require reworking the follower and then installing a block at the rear to take up the extra space; it is usually not worth the effort.
