back on topic a bit, I would suggest taking a look at savage. The MK II series is very accurate and affordable. And they dont look too bad either

If you're willing to take a chance, the CMP has Kimber Model 82s (a bit rusty) for just over your target price of $350 at $400. May not be what you want, but you never know. You can get on their web site, go to the forum and see what comments have been made.

I have Marlin 60, 2 1022's, Henry levers, and 3 452 cz's. Since I got the CZ's the others have been staying at home.

Around $129 or less on sale, and they've got a $25 rebate until the end of the year. And Shooter's Ridge has 25-round mags for 'em @ about $22.98... ![]() Of course, I pimped mine out ![]()

I have the Henry standard and it's "on" it's game big time. Also have another favorite, the Ruger 77/22, .22lr and after getting the right scope on it, it's a tack driver and off a bench all the way out to 100yds. And the Remington Nylon 66...tack driver all the way!!!

To me, per dollar spent CZ is the best you can get. A used American (scope) or Trainer (iron sights) fits you price parameters.

A daft and pointless question really. It's like asking what the best car is or motorcycle? Everyone has conflicting opinions and ideas...
The question should have been "Which .22LR rifle would you recommend"? Then you should explain your circumstances, history and what you enjoy using firearms for. ![]() "Bang for buck" the CZ/BRNO line of rifles take a lot of beating. A new CZ Model 452 ticks most boxes in terms of cost, performance, accuracy, quality of manufacture, materials used, robustness, durability etc... ![]() There are some real bargains to be had if you want a secondhand rifle. Have a look at the older BRNO's too. But there are many other contenders out there including some of the most popular rifles ever made - Marlin Model 60 etc (a brilliant little U.S made rifle). Get the opinion of someone who has owned/used many rifles. People on forums often tend to recommend only those guns they own. Take more notice of the genuine collectors out there. Most gun forums have these kind of real "gun nuts" - prolific posters who enjoy helping others and talking about their passion. I know of some real experts who collect just .22LR rifles and have hundred's in their collection! Listen to these chaps carefully as most of what comes out of their mouths is FACT and not fiction. I'm Expert at NOTHING (I only possess 2 firearms both .22LR), but I am "in love" with BRNO/CZ's generally.... Looking to have an affair with Anchutz very soon too....

Hey Kent Detective, you say you only have two and both are .22's ...When in the hell are your politicians going to wake up and issue you at a minimum a 4 inch .357 revolver???
Once you enter Parliament must you receive a lobotomy? Or must you show proof that you have had one before you can run for office? Pack up the family and move to the US. Apply for a dept here. ![]() Last edited by j3hill; 03-27-2011 at 03:44 PM.. |

I have owned many over the years but only have four .22 rifles now. A Henry Golden Boy, Savage 187B, Marlin model 60 and a Ruger 10/22. I listed them in the order of my preference. The Savage is the most accurate with the Henry a close second. The Henry is the most fun tho. |

The most accurate .22 I've ever laid hands on was a Marlin 39 Mountie lever-action, built in the early '70s. Had to be one of the phenomenal barrels Marlin built from time to time. My brother still has it.
I often thought I'd like to have a .22, probably a bolt-action, that I could produce consistent cloverleafs with from the bench with target ammo... Yet another to add to the list. ![]()

Just saw dogspit's post about the Nylon 66. Man do I miss those things! They were very accurate and utterly reliable. The only issue was that the bolt handle was plastic and wouldn't take much of a bump. The local shops always had a drawer full of extras. The rest was pretty indestructible. Now, if you can find one they command a premium price. And a lot of them are in sad shape. It's common to find them with surface rust, especially on the metal receiver covers. I believe if Remington would start selling them again at a reasonable price, they wouldn't be able to make them fast enough.

This is the 'mostest' out-of-the-box accurate .22 I've ever owned. I know that's not a word, but it describes it perfectly. I've had 39A's that could not compete. If you shot it, I bet you would want it.

Some truly lovely looking pics here.
I love looking at pics of other peoples rifles... ![]() Thought it might be helpful (in view of your comment above) to point out British fireams law - Over here in Britland EACH gun is licensed NOT the person holding them. Once you have been vetted and given the right to hold and use firearms you must make an application to procure EACH individual firearm. You must make a good argument each time otherwise the application will be denied. Here in the UK it's very unusual for a FAC holder to possess more than one rifle of each calibre. My mate has - 1 x .22LR (rabbit) 1 x .22-250 (fox) 1 x .243 (small/medium deer) 1 x .308 (Red deer / Wild Boar) This is considered to be the normal maximum for UK live quarry. It's simply not possible to possess hundreds of firearms like some of you lucky people are able to. It's a bit unfair judging UK shooters by the number of firearms they possess. ![]() I have been shooting (hunting) since the age of 8 - nearly 40 years now.
