That means no more Winchesters or Brownings and most of the parts to repair or American cars and trucks. Close Wallmart, Target and most of the Big Box Stores. You will most likely have to give up pork products. Most of our cloths and Levis for sure. We will be naked and hungrey but by hell we can do it.

You might have to do a lot of research to find out if a car is truly made in America. A lot of the big 3's production takes place in Canada and Mexico with parts supplied from around the world. To add to the confusion, many foreign branded vehicles are manufactured in foctories in America. It might be a good idea to support the American companies, but remember they're all operating in a global market. The U.S. is only one segment of the market for them.

Might have a hard time finding a "buy American" sticker made in America ... I bought a baseball style cap at the FBI store when I worked on a remodeling project at the Midwest Regional office, it says "made in china" in big bold print on the tag-our own Gov't doesn't support US manufacturers.

I can't afford to buy American any more. It's not that the country lost it's patriotism, it's that the unions priced the American made products out of the market.

I bought the Gadsden hat, and T shirt from NRA. When it came in I got a catalog for their store, and a little magnet for the fridge. It says "for real American values", the hat, and T shirt are made in China. I just bought a new car. I wanted a Ford. Ford didn't want my business, so I bought a Hyundai. I know they didn't want my business because they were $5,000 higher on a comparable Hyundai. And most of the Ford was made somewhere other than in the USA anyway. I agree the Unions are killing America, and they are Socialist. Ask me how I know! I do try to buy American when I can, I always look at labels. However, most of time there simply isn't an American Company that makes that product. Or the stores don't carry them because they cost too much!

For Jeans I know of two.
Texas Jeans and Diamond Gusset Jeans. DGJ are made in Bon Aqua [Dickson] TN just W of Nashville and they only use Denim made in the USA. They make them with a 'diamond gusset' sewn in the crotch for freedom of movement. Their order dept. will fit you to size perfectly and guarantee the fit. So, for you especially Carver, here is one place that I vouch for that you can trust.

The problem is, many American manufacturers don't listen and provide the goods people demand. That's why Jap cars got in, the Big Three ignored what the American people were wanting and just built what they thought the competion would be impressed with.
Try to buy a motorcycle that isn't a Harley style cruiser made in the states, and yet there are dozens of look alike copycats of the H-D made here. But not one Dualsport, Dirt or good Touring bike. Sorry, be American, buy American, (and get ripped off by your fellow American in many cases) has no influence on me, It's a Global market, like it or not. When it comes to my money, I follow the Ruskin rule.

You know those little tags on clothing and other items that say "Made in China"? Well I understand that those tags are made in America.

Benjamin Franklin said that "The power to tax is the powed to destroy". Could it be possible that the 30% corporate tax in this country, compared to the 18% corporate tax in Canada and the 17% tax in Mexico are reason enough for corporations to move elsewhere? Actually, with all the taxes we pay, directly and indirectly, we are the most heavily taxed people on this earth! All those taxes are combined in the final price, and we as consumers pay all of them!

My Nissan was made in Tennessee. Where are most "American" cars made?My dad's Dodge truck was assembled in Mexico with a lot of foreign made parts. And since this is a firearms forum; how sad is it that our own military and the overwhelming majority of our police agencies issues foreign made sidearms? Sigs, Glocks, Berettas, etc. It seems that American quality and workmanship has severely slipped in the past few decades. I hope we can one day get it back, but until we do, I will have to buy the best product for the best price available. My 2006 Nissan has, so far been maintenance free, while my wife's Jeep Liberty (a year newer) has been in the shop NUMEROUS times since we bought it.

There is some good in importing as well as exporting. American companys make huge bucks exporting goods. While I can understand the frustration, you will NEVER see only made in america products in this country. And, I will add, some imported products are better than the high priced american product. Also, in the land of the free we have a choice what we want to buy. Take away our choice and your dictating. Do we need to drive the unions out? Yes. Should we try to buy american when we can? Yes again. But import and export is here to stay.

For most folks, patriotism has a price, and I'm sad to say that the price of patriotism is cheap. We buy the cheap stuff in Walmart made by kids in China. And we say to each other that the Unions are to blame. Unions?
Union membership has declined at the same rate as middle class income in the U.S.A. Unions are not exactly dead, but like the middle class they are close. Most of the jobs we lost to China, India, etc. were non-Union. Union or not, American workers can never compete with China, India and Vietnam for cheap labor. It's not possible to feed a family in America on .18 cents an hour. If China wiped out American industry with fire bombs we would call it war. But if China wipes out American industry with cheap .18 cents an hour workers it's called progress? Why is this? Because the folks who got rich from selling us out tell us it's all about "Free Trade" We only have ourselves to blame. We should demand American made products from American institutions. I have several NRA hats, and I'm guilty of ignoring the fact that each one was made in China. A letter to the NRA is a good start. I'm going to say that I would proudly pay extra for an NRA hat MADE IN THE U.S.A. |

IMO the phrase, "Buy American" has been passe for several decades in the auto business. Our auto makers were among the first to "go global" when sourcing - and out sourcing - components, so the totally "American-Made Car" has been a myth for many decades; not a new artifact. OTOH Americans have long sought - and paid premium prices for - such offshore products as French wines, Italian/Greek olive oil, Scotch and Irish whiskeys, optics, firearms, Egyptian cotton, and the list goes on.......
On the "upside", the U.S. farm economy has long been a bulwark for our balance of trade. But we've exported not only the means but the technology to be more food self-sufficient to many nations. U.S. firms have taken some of their production offshore as well. Caterpillar makes equipment around the world; as does Ingersoll-Rand to name but two. While the reasons for vary with individual firms, most have the common denominator of oppressive U.S. law and taxes in common. Indeed, I suspect, left alone, corporate businesses would do far more to enable a " unified world " than all the politicians that ever lived. ....And everyone would benefit, not just the political poltroons living upon the sweat of the working peoples of the world......IOW these parasites couldn't divert the earned wealth of their populace to their own families as is now the case in so many nations..... IOW, mine is not another "communist manifesto" rant, but an appreciation that all the world's peoples can profit from economic development - provided they shed the twin yokes of traditionalism and paternalism propounded by self-serving dictators/quorums in positions of power. >MW |

I've been buying/selling steel pipe for decades.
I don't think I can put this in any logical easy to follow order, so I'll just throw it out there. Problem #1 is greed. Corporate/shareholder/union greed. It's true that Americans (on a whole) are wealthy compared to the rest of the world. Big business, realizing this, chose to capitalize on the fact. Take US Steel/USX as an example. They will make steel and sell it for 'x' amount of dollars in the US. When the US consumed their share of the product, they then dumped it offshore for far less than what the US consumer paid for it. They got their money up front from the 'richer' people. Drug manufacturers are the same. They have alliances with the insurance companies, and exploit the American people first. Then they dump their products to foreign countries at a much reduced rate. Lot's of US citizens go to Canada and Mexico for their meds because it's CHEAPER! Our factories are antiquated by most world standards. This is why the rest of the world can compete in our backyard. Big Business chose to let the bottom line rule, and our factories fell far behind the newer technologies being used in foreign countries. We skimped in every facet of the process in order to pad the bank account. As the rest of the world is catching up to us, we still ingore the reality of our follies. We choose to send our business offshore instead. Here's one example: http://esask.uregina.ca/entry/ipsco_inc.html IPSCO started out as a Canadian steel manufacturer. Some of the American steel producers started falling behind, and rather than try to compete, they sold out to the Canadian firm. Guess where all the profit went. As years went by, the Canadian firm fell into the same cycle that the US makers did. Greed took its place and the management/shareholders once again settled on their bank statements. Enter TMK. http://www.tmk-group.com/activity.php TMK bought out IPSCO and now controls many steel manufacturing plants in the US. Guess where the profits go. Do they emply US citizens? Yes. Is the steel made in the US? Yes and no. Do the profits benefit the US? Nope. So, if the SHTF, and the Russians own our steel manufacturing plants, do you think they're going to continue production? Do you think they care about our 'unions'? If anything, they'll continue production and ship it back to themselves (or the highest bidder), and our government will say, "Hey they're employing Americans". This is but one example of US greed at work. Just one reason as to why we are where we are today. We made the bed, and soon we'll be sleeping on the floor. As the rest of the world is climbing out of a hole, we continue to dig deeper. I'm skipping off to laundry and dinner prep now. Carry on. |

It's a fact that the American worker wants to make the most amount of money he can for the least amount of work performed in the shortest amount of time worked. It does not take a rocket surgeon to realize that all this combined equals workers that are priced out of the market. The highest cost in operating a business is wages. When the cost of wages is greater than the amount of income, you cannot sustain operations. We have kids working at fast food joints making over $10/hour, and high school dropouts in Michigan making $30/hour to sit and watch a machine all day because they have a union contract. Our priorities as a society are messed up, and we have practically no work ethic at all any more. Most expect something to be given to them instead of earning it. They expect a raise every year, regardless of their performance. They expect a week (or two, or three) of vacation every year. They expect to have 10 or more holidays off per year with pay. They expect to be given sick time, then they expect that no one will mind them using that sick time to go out and play instead of being sick. All of this costs employers time and money, and at some point the house of cards has to come crashing down. We just happen to be living in the time where decades of greed and gluttony have caught up with us. We will either change, and go back to the way things were in the 1950's and before, or we will cease to exist. It really is that simple.

'Comon, if you can't find a store that carries American products, well, let's say you want a bedroom set, Google "American made bedroom set" in time this will catch on...We damn sure have to try, even if it coasts a little more!!!...
