Hi Rodog and welcome to TFF. I cannot say how to make 500 S&W brass, but if you follow the link below, you buy starline brass for $22.00 / 100. You might also want to check out the MidwayUSA site as they also sell Starline brass.

thanks, glad to be here, this looks like an awsome forum. I used to reload about 10 years ago, but sold everything to a friend when i started having kids, etc, lol. I just started to get my stuff back. Also just got my C&R too, and will startgetting a few rifles soon. If i remember, the 500 Linbaugh , or something like that used 45-70 cases, but i cant remember.

The .454 Cassull uses 45-70
there is such a thing as a 50-70 but I would not suggest ruining good brass for a hand cannon.

The 454 Casull does not use the 45-70 case as a base. The dimensions would not allow it.

Rodog, I would definately advise you to go to the Starline web page and read about the brass. There was a revision done to the case to allow magnum rifle primers to be used with heavier bullets and to keep the firing pin from piercing the primer and eroding the firing pin bushing. This change occurred on 7/28/03. Go check it out.
