Question Miroku Charles Daly 28 ga.

I was given a 28ga. o/u Miroku Charles Daly several years ago and have used it on clays and dove several times. From the research I have done, it appears to be one of 200 made for test marketing. It is a small frame, 26 inch barrels,skeet/skeet, highly engraved and checkered. I know that it is worth "whatever someone will pay" but I would like some idea for insuring purposes. Based upon what I have seen others describe their guns, I would suggest 90 % on metal and 95% on wood. Gun is very tight and a joy to shoot. Any help?

To the best of my knowledge Daly imported B C Miroku guns from 1963-76, with the O/U line having a Venture Grade, Field Grade, Superior Grade and Diamond Grade. There may have been others. 28 ga was available in most of the grades at one time or another.

The book I'm looking at shows the Diamond Grade Skeet being the most valuable, at about $1100 in excellent condition. If you serial number suggests to you that your gun was an early model that was testing the market for a 28 ga skeet gun, then I would use the value above and add a small premium. After all, if there were only 200 made it would be difficult to replace yours.

cavedweller,
Welcome to the forums. You have a couple things going for you:
28 gauge is, usually, very desireable gauge and sells for a premium over 12 and 20 ga.;
Miroku made some exceptionally fine firearms;
it is "set-up" for SKEET shooting, or close range field/bird shooting with pretty wide open chokes (just shy of cylinder bore);
if it is truly a "test marketing" model made or sold in limited numbers, it MAY have some collector interest.
Not having seen one of these sold - going only on experience - I'd say that a grand is not out of the question and maybe higher by a couple hundred, assuming the condition is as you say. It might go for a lot more, probably not much less - depending upon the market in your area.
The Charles Daly name, being a "brand" name - may detract a bit from interest, can't say for sure unless you put it up for auction. Got pics?

EDIT: I see that Contenderizer just beat me to the wire - but I'm glad to see that we agree pretty much on valuation.
