Today, House Bill 40, NRA-backed castle doctrine legislation, passed in the state Senate by a 45 to 5 vote. This bill will now go to Governor Tom Corbett for his consideration.
Introduced by state Representative Scott Perry (R-92), HB 40 would permit law-abiding citizens to use force, including deadly force, against an attacker in their home and any place outside of their home where they have a legal right to be. If enacted into law, it would also protect individuals from civil lawsuits by the attacker or the attacker’s family when force is used.

We will have to see what this new Gov will do. He was not thrilled with it prior. Lot of pressure put on by NRA. We all got bumper stickers etc and cards to send to the legislators and the Gov. which were supplied by the NRA to us members to send. What is great is this extends to your vehicle.

Good to hear. We were originally from NW Pa, Crawford Co; left 20 years back. People tell me it has went so far left from what I remember; I'd never recognize the place; so to hear castle doctrine is a good thing. Crime must be getting worse.
I could never survive there after living in rural Alaska; be locked up within minutes for exhibiting the everyday freedoms we find quite normal; so I doubt I'll ever go back even to visit. We went back in 97, planned on staying 2 weeks; were gone 2 days later; couldn't take the congestion, hordes of people, and lack of space. But glad just the same to see the castle doctrine on it's way. Now you all have to start reversing all the local & state regulations & rules that enslave you so; it can be done; people get a taste of freedom and they want more of the stuff. |

Its about time. The last time it came up, Ed "The Guru of the Dem Party" Rendell, our worst governor in history (IMHO) vetoed. Word was, if it came back, Corbett would sign it. I sure hope so.

Gov Corbetts office said late yesterday he WILL sign this bill. Castle Doctrine will extend to ANYWHERE you have the right to be as long as you have permit to carry. Yes, PA may be moving a bit more in the right direction.

I wish Wisconsin would get on some legislation like this. But it would take a miracle. Right now the liberals are already going crazy over concealed carry even with all the attention on the collective bargaining laws.

It's kind of scary in a sense that five people can say you don't have Constitutional rights guarunteed in the Bill of Rights. And isn't that the whole point of the Second Amendment? When the legislative, executive and judicial branch vote to take your rights away, your guns become the keepers of the Constitution.

But you know in the end it all comes down to people's perception in the USA. Any full scale change in the 2nd amendment and implementation would lead to upheaval & political change and the dems have felt it in the past. People believe they have the right of the 2nd amendment and not judicial review will change that. It's the same with the Indians around here. The fed park people demand them to stop this and that and the Indians ignore the fed regs and do as they always have done. In the end the feds change their policy to fit what the local Indians see as their cultural rights. Be like what would occur if Big "O" closed down all the Baptist Churches, everything would hit the fan. I'm not so worried about the 2nd amendment; have more faith in America's perception of freedom and that will never change.
Govts enslave people through taxes, regulations, rules, and their march towards socialism. Look at what occurs when people stand up, like to say prop taxes. Let a referendum get passed on state level; the govt people are really afraid of such things. Also, bad economy means the people in power are held responsible and the pendulum will swing back the other way. I'm glad they have started to pass the castle doctrine in Pa. NOw the people need to lower state, local ,and county taxes to really make big changes there. Pennsylvanians have no idea how obscenely over taxed they are, no joke. They have been conditioned to accept it as business as usual and think it's like that everywhere, and people in Pa can make the changes too; just have to wake on up. |

PA has been doing a fair job of late. Just last evening two more low life politicians were convicted. One current Lackawanna Co Comissioner and one former one. One can get more than 80 yrs and the other more than 200 yrs. They are number 29 & 30 of political fignured in and around Luzerne County which have been convicted of extortion, rackateering etc. Next us long time PA Senator Rafael Musto who's trial begins in fall. Our former comissioner here in Luzerne Co. currently is in prison. Greg Skrepenak who was former football standout at Michigan/Oakland Raiders/Carolina Panthers. He has made several attempts to get out saying he is mentally not able to handle prison LOL.

Political corruption is part of the landscape in Alaska too, less people, more money in the pot to get at drives it. Palin really changed things, but now shes gone, it's back to business as usual. Some of the crooks she put away are now being given political state jobs again by Parnell. The corruption will always be there in the picture, in every state I believe. Good to see the crooks jailed but never ending struggle that goes on everywhere.
When I say taxes & regulations; I mean that such government negative influences tend to add to the resident's cost of living and cost for everybody of doing business; just drive everything into a vicious circle of needing more and more money to survive. Pretty soon people are working 3 jobs and it all just goes out the door soon as it comes in and the govt just luvs it as then the people become more dependent on the govt social system out of necessity. Look at how many Americans now receive food stamps. No joke, if you only lived in a state for a few months where the taxes & regulations were practically non-existent; you would see what I'm talking about in a dramatic manner; how it is interconnected with every aspect and affects every aspect of your life. Think about how much all the local, state, and county regulations and taxes, and fees that you are paying or are increasing your everyday costs of life in general. That's what I'm talking about when I go on about taxes ect. If People in Pa could defund the growth of govt by reducing taxes & fees; they would really accomplish big things. You see, when I lived in pa, 20 some years back; I knew it was getting worse, I knew something wasn't right, but I never thought in the terms that I now do. I never realized it could be any different as far as taxes ect. I never dreamed that there were places where people didn't pay such a large % of their income in taxes, fees, licenses, and various methods of revenue sources for state & local govt. Boy, I hope Pa really does get it going back the other way; you all deserve more. My entire life growing up, I lived in Pa, liked the place; but something just wasn't right for me and my family. I now understand it was the growth in govt control through taxes and the increasing lack of freedom there that was eating at my soul. I hope you get it all back, keep up the good work. |

I don't mean to trash on teacher's but they have gotten at least 3% minimum raise EVERY year and never returned any money to state. They go on strike and never have to lose any pay as they just make up the time in summer and then it is with half days and sometimes shortened school year etc. I realize many of public workers unions have some sweetheart deals but they lump them all together and are also trashing some of the smaller ones who have tried to work with the State. You cannot just lump all public sector workers together like some Gov's are trying to do.

Land of Taxes, ha, I remember it too. Terry, now you're going to laugh; wife and I both have our teaching certs. Wifey taught back in Pa, I went back and completed my degree here in Alaska. We wanted to live out in the sticks and figured teaching would provide an income pretty much anywhere across Ak.
Teaching isn't nearly as lucrative in Ak as in Pa, but here the state highway, heavy equipment operators all retire after 25 years at 5-6 gran/month; and I say good for them. One guy I know retired and on top of retirement makes $70/hr on a grader and I'm glad for him. He makes the teachers look like poor folks, ha ha. All the pensions & ssn will be devalued anyway pretty quick, so one can't count on them anyway. If we had stayed back east, wife would have already retired; and would have topped out at over 110 gran for 9 months; makes 35 gran less here but how much does one really need to be happy? You have to understand our cost of living is nowhere near as high as in Pa. Maybe back east it takes 50K more a year for taxes & fees & living costs. Teachers in our district get about 1.5% increase/yr but district spends 20K/yr on every teacher's family health plan. Our teacher retirements are funded from 8% they take out of the teacher's paycheck, no state money like in Pa. It's better that way too, keeps corruption with state out of pensions. But, by far the best benefit of being a teacher is the 2 months off every summer and we're enjoying it right now. Wife and I have talked about crazy things like if our student numbers drop and they ever close our school. We have seen years that we had 30 kids and 2 years later only 14 kids; real 2 room school house. Nearest sch dist school is over 200 miles away, kinda remote you know. Locals approached the wife about running the school on her own if it ever does, kinda like a charter school. Wife said that she would retire and teach for free if it ever happened; wife likes teaching; wants to teach until she is around 60. No joke, then NEA probably sue her for this or that ha ha. But, you know as well as I that Pa is facing big financial problems and the only recourse is to lower state spending. They've already raised taxes all that the people can stand. Ak has 60-70 billion in the bank. Some of it is from oil but we don't have any state taxes either, some from low population numbers, but most is from the conservative mindset that rules Ak when it comes to finances and living here I dramatically see the difference between Pa & Ak. And sorry to get of track from the Castle Doctrine. |

Great news for the folks! Funny how libs respond to pro gun stuff. When our gov signed open carry into law, a lib sheriff in tampa I think said his deputies would be "drawing down" on everybody that "displayed" a firearm. Flippin ignorant liberal nonsense. Stupid. They make me sick.
