I HAVE COLT PISTOL ON BARRELL ITS MARKED COLT DA 38
ON BUTT ITS MARKED U.S ARMY MODEL 1901 UNDER THAT ITS NO 197 124 IN FRONT OF GRIP ITS MARKED 1903 BESIDE HAMMER ITS MARKED J.T.T ABOVE GRIP AND ON CYC ITS MARKED R.A.C ON CYC RELEASE ITS GOT K OVER 7124 HAS A 6" BARRELL CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT IT IS AND IF WORTH ANYTHING JUST FAIR COND.HAS HOLSTER WITH METAL CLIP

Welcome to the forum. Your gun is a pre-WW1 U. S. Army issue. It should have a lanyard ring on butt and smooth wooden grips with inspector's initials. Caliber is .38 Long Colt, not .38 Special. Value maybe $200-$300 if only fair condition, and holster is military issue.

RAC is Rinaldo A. Carr, who inspected the gun originally. JTT is John Taliaferro Thompson*, who inspected the gun after it was rebuilt in 1903.
*Yes, the Thompson of the Thompson submachinegun, who at that time was a captain and inspector of revolvers and machineguns at Springfield Armory. Whether he actually did the inspecting of that revolver or not, it was done, and marked, by his authority. Jim |
