Default 1911 target shooting question?

When target shooting what distances do yall shoot from the most? I've shot a lot at my home range, But never at a regular shooting range. I hear some people say they shoot 7 yards, some say 25 yards. I shoot anywhere in between 7 and 25 yards.

I usually shoot at 15 yards, with any handgun, but I do enjoy hitting the "gong" at 50 yards.

Jack, I'm going to have to give that a try. I never thought about shooting tennis balls.

actually these are solid rubber things look like a tennis ball but are meant for dog's i think they call them a KONG, its solid rubber heavy , and will take a few hits

a doggy lady i know had em for her dogs and i got her to get me a dozen

tennis balls dont last that long unless i throw them real far outta range ..

I shoot at targets but am not really a "Target Shooter" as that implies more skill than I have. We have a lot of stuff hanging at 50 feet any thing from golf balls and 2" self sealing plastic to 4" and 8" steel plates that we shoot with the handguns. Most paper is shot at 50' and 25 yards with the handguns. The .22 rifles are usually shooting at 50 and 100 yards. They shoot at paper for zero conformation but usually we a plinking at 1" and 2" wood block made out of scrap wood. I recently put up a 10" steel plate at 25 yards, a 12" one at 37 yards and a 16" at 50 yards. They are not all that difficult to hit with the handguns but there is just something about that "ring" a hit gets you that makes them a whole lot of fun. We don't do much center fire rifle shooting. If I can't hit it I get closer or get a bigger target.

Mostly 25 yards for paper. That's about as far as I can see well with open sights. Like every one else I love to ring the steel at greater distances. Instant gratification!

I start at 7 yards, and slowly move my target out to 25 yards.

Most of my tragets for my SD handguns are inside 30' (10yds). Still I like to shoot targets at longer ranges with these guns, just so I know I can.

For handguns 7, 10, and 15 yards but honestly I'm not very good anymore. Once I master those ranges (if I ever do) I'll think about shooting longer ranges. For now 7-15yds is all that's practical.

I normally practice at 50ft or less. Sometimes I try long shots, but I figure closer ranges are more important since statistics show us most gun fights happen in 21 ft or less. But, dont "limit" yourself either. Anything can happen. Best to be ready for anything.
