I have looked at the Taurus .38 snubby. What does your wife think about the recoil. With it being so light and short I have been told it is not a gun that you want to take out and shoot for fun and I really want to shoot it alot to be comfortable with having it with my as my means of safety.

I think that, right there, is the absolute most important thing. You have to feel completely comfortable with it or you won't want to carry it!!

If you are looking at the revolver the Ruger LCR will be the softest shooting lightweight due to the Hogue grip.

All I could add would be what I posted in post #7. Go shopping..... for comfort. I'd bet someone close to you has whatever you may find comfortable, so you can shoot it. Post a little "want to try it" ad at your local gun shop.

There is substantial recoil, but we've gone through boxes of 50 at the range with her doing most of the shooting and not complaining. Probably because the small grips fir her hands pretty well.

Too bad there is no easy/close river crossings. There are a couple good indoor ranges in Little Rock area. Don't know about Memphis.

Welcome to TFF msqueen
The Kilby family has a range just NE of the I-40/I-240 split
kinda by Summer ave.....near Bartlett
They have a huge, friendly, safe, and clean place,
and are wonderful GOD-fearing folks.
It's a full scale facility, range, classes, new and used firearms,
and usually a large selection of rental guns.
From you in Cleveland, take I-55 N to I-240 towards the airport,
and when you get to I-40 they are just N-NE off Summer ave
on Whitten, called RangeUSA. [see map link]

If the Taurus .38 snub was a good fit and feel
in your hand, but are concerned about the recoil,
as you should be [mine has a kick], how about the
same basic revolver in a 9mm ? [like a Taurus model 905 SS2 ]
Or a Taurus model 606 .38/.357 w/2" ported barrel.....

I have posted before.....and again as follows:
Find a revolver that feels comfortable in .327 Federal Magnum caliber
and shoot the light .32shorts.....32longs.....32 H&Rmags.....or .327 FedMags
all four rounds...from light to plenty of muscle......from the same gun.

Oh.....BTW
I have to agree with Brother DD
I am not a fan of purse-carry, but believe
strongly that you should carry on your person.
Reason being, worst case scenario, parking lot

they want your purse !
They take your purse.....they now have your.............

On the other hand.....
your Bersa .380 is an excellent carry piece
and can be loaded with some stringent self-defense ammo.
Maybe look at holsters that are comfortable and start
to carry on your person instead of in your purse.
The Bersa .380 is VERY easy to conceal.
I don't have a link handy at this moment....... but
they have available a very nice and comfortable [I am told]
bra holster, fits in the front/middle, and is easy and fast
to acquire the weapon from.
The money you save, you could buy a Bersa .22 and have
the same firearm to shoot the beans out of for only pennies.

Thanks OZO I was looking at going to that exact range I think it is called Range USA. If I get a chance to go tomorrow I will let you know what I looked at. The bra holster thing is a good idea but just not for me. I will look at other holster options. Thanks everyone for all the help on this. You dont know how much I appreciate all the ideas and options you have gave me.

My wifes IDPA and USPSA pistol is a S&W 9mmM&P. She loves it and won't shoot anything else. She uses the "small" pink grip insert.

That is so not fair.. A woman with a firm set of DDs could carry a full size 1911 and nobody would know..

I've tried the snub nose revovler & pocket 380 acp with my wife and neither worked out too well. While she liked the pistols, she never wanted to shoot them. She's now carrying a 3rd gen G26. It's taken time but she is happy with her current firearm and now carries in a holster. Most important for me is that she will actually shoot her carry gun at the range.

I did not get out to the Range this weekend. I called and talked to them and the only thing they had that I wanted to try was the Ruger LCR. It really was not worth driving 2 hrs just to shoot one gun. Guess I will rethink this Idea. I have found someone here that has the S&W and Im going to try to get it sometime this week.

I would like to say thank you again for all the help. I spent a lot of time researching and considering the best option for me. I purchased the Ruger LCR and I LOVE it. It seems to have a smother trigger pull than the S&W 642. The Ruger does have recoil however, it does not seem as bad as the S&W. I never could get comfortable with the J frame I either held it to low and did not have good control, or to high and the corner would dig into my hand. I did get the crimson grips and that will take practice but that is the fun of a new toy. Thanks again everyone, without your help I would have never considered this gun.
