I went to a gunshot today to sell or trade a couple of my guns.
I like Colts and ran across a SAA that is the blackpowder frame. Here is the question, it was reblued by Colt. Due to this fact they put a new serial number on it on the underside of the frame. SA92819. When I got home, I took off the grips (which are not orig they look too good) and on the frame is stamped. 819 as well as carved into the grip. Am I to assume the 819 is the original serial number putting this gun made in 1874? I can post pics if need be, but I think this info is enough to answer my question simply. It is in .45 cal barrel length 7 1/2 . Thanks

I believe you got took.
I have never heard of Colt "re-serialing" a gun. For that matter, I've never heard of ANYBODY "re-serialing" a gun. I have a pair of Italian "colt replicas", with the blackpowder frame. Their serial numbers are SA2xxxx.

I never heard of Colt or anybody else except the BATFE putting a new serial number on a gun. If the reblue is recent Colt didn't do it.

Yup, SOB at the gun show. He will be back, I have seen him before there.
However, the gun I traded for I wanted $1000 for it firm. We did an even trade. It is a Colt Model P .45 made in 1989 according to Colt after I talked to them. It is in excellent condition so it was prob close to an even trade anyway. And I already have a 1901 with letter and was wanting another from the 3rd gen and 2nd gen line, so I guess it is fine. I just hate lying sacks of... Another lesson in life learned. |

I thought I had heard them all, but that is a new story. Assuming the gun is a Colt, it would have been made in 1979 (the reason the grips look good!).

Not sure where you get 1979 from. I talked to Colt directly, gave them the number and they told me 1989. Looks like I have to post pics now....sigh

The SA prefix is a dead give a way that it was manufactured after 1978. No preFix or suffix, made pre war II, SA suffix, made after WWII starting 1956 ( a few were made during and just after the war ). SA prefix, made after 1978.

Is that first one just a crappy picture, or are there no case colors on that gun?

After you posted that Alpo I pulled up the picture again and really looked at it. You know, I think that gun has been buffed.

All my Colt SAA's have serial numbers on inside of grips, each side might not fit another gun.
