Do you guys store it loaded locked in a safe? Loaded under the bed? Unloaded with ammo nearby?? I am just curious because I just picked up my new 12 gauge today and its main purpose is home defense!
Thanks guys ![]()

fully loaded, unchambered, with 12 rounds in 2 sidesaddles right there on the weapon. I live in rural Joshua TX so I keep loaded with '00' as I am not too worried about wall penetration and killing a neighbor. The nearest ones are well over 200 yds away.

Fully loaded, unchambered; five in the pipe, five in the saddle, standing in the corner about 30" from the headboard.

Fully loaded (unchambered) with 00 buck. Two more 00 buck and three slugs in a side saddle.
I use only 2.75" shells. I'm not at all worried about them being underpowered.

I use 2.75" shells too. 3 inch mags are overkill for 2 legged targets and most 4 legged targets. Less recoil and still plenty of punch.
My HD rig is a 12 ga 870. Holds 18 rds total, unchambered, and has a 19" barrel with a 2 round mag tube extension, 6 rd sidesaddle and 6 rd buttcuff. Birdbuster magnetic fire sight on the forward end of the rib.

I took it home, cut the barrel from 28" to 19", shortened the pump so the sidesaddle would fit, put a tactical buttcuff on it, and put a magnetic birdbuster on the rib. Its been my HD gun ever since. I occasionally take it out and shoot sporting clays with it.

Remington 1100, loaded with 6 rounds, standing beside the bed, my side. First two out the tube will be #00, followed by a slug, another #00, a slug, etc. Will be picking up a side saddle for this one this week. Like JLA I'm a country boy, don't have to worry about hitting the neighbors house unless I shoot at it on purpose!

2 loaded with rounds chambered and safeties on, never mind where they are kept but they aren't in a safe.

Savage Stevens 350 12-ga Pump Field/Security Combo. Comes with 18" and 28" barrels. I've actually been shooting this more than my Remingtons this year. And check out the sights - these aren't shown on the Savage website, or on the rack model at Dick's Sporting Goods where I purchased this, so I was delighted when I opened the box and saw 'em. I highly recommend this shotgun - takes about 30 seconds to switch the barrels, and it shoots like a dream. I read a couple of so-so reviews on the web a while back, but I always remember, there are people in this world who use their guns for oars and hammers. This one has over 400 shells through it without a single problem.

We have 8 frisky grandchildren who ALL have had Gun Safety A La Grandpa. They do well, and obey the rules, in MY house. Their parents, NONE of them, believe in long guns, acquiring instead .380, .357, and .40 cal. handguns. So I keep my shotgun, Baikal, semi., 3" Magnum, 9-in tube, 1-in chamber, stored upright in the space afforded behind our bedroom door. A latex finger off an exam glove over the muzzle, butt-down, resting in a shallow metal cup. Loaded иии buck going out first, sold slug next, then all the rest are иии, except the last round, which is a White-Star magnesium signal flare. This helps me find their bodies.

Still chuckling about the notion of being confronted by a shotgun-wielding man whose jockeys are stuffed with shells ...

Well at least it would be ammo falling outta by drawers. The baddie might have to buy new drawers after seeing a mostly nude, hairy, white man with a loaded 12 ga shotgun pointed at him... And then seeing the 00 buck falling out and thinkin "WTF, this guy craps ammo!!! Im outta here!"
