Fox News (Stossel) this morning said that the Mayor of London had called in William Bratton, former police comissioner of L.A., to consult on the situation. Apparently he said the London police had to stop the "hands off" version of riot control. It seems that Obama is highly offended by Bratton's suggestions to the police in England. How would it look if American police forces didn't keep themselves in check when the unrest comes here?

Heard on the radio that the police in England aren't organized anywhere near along the same line as American police dept's. They are responsible to an elected official, whose main focus is reelection. Therefor his (or her) main focus is what gets them reelected, massive diversity training , community relations, social issues, etc;. The police get very little training in actual restoration or the keeping of order. They had to have a parliamentary meeting to actually know how to respond. The london police have effectively been neutered by their own system.

That's what is so amazing. Isn't the first order of business for a police force to maintain and restore order for the citizens? I'm amazed at their lack of response. It certainly appears they don't know what to do.

How can anyone expect the London PD to do anything but stay back on their heels because all they know is diversity training for community relations and social issues (as PermaFrost puts it). It's plain ol' Political Correctness gone completely mad. This is exactly what you get.

I'm not from a law enforcement background, but as Duke suggests, it stands to reason that LEOs gains compliance by respect or force - whichever is necessary. Respect is gained from previous force. However, I must say that the amount of force definitely walks a fine line.
