Talking to a friend yesterday who bought one. He ran 250 rds thru his as fast as he could , trying to get it to quit. A mixed bag of HP, ball, junk and anything he could throw at it. He said the slide was to hot to touch, let alone the barrel when he finished, but it never bobbled one time! Its his carry gun now. He still says he likes his Kimber better, but he will stake his life on the Ruger.

thats a pretty strong assessment PF. Ruger deserves that kind of reputation. They do make utterly reliable weapons.

I would have bought one, but I couldn't find one here, so I pulled the trigger on a Springfield Range Officer. I like it, but I still would buy the Ruger if I had the chance. One can never have too many good 1911s.

The market will eventually become saturated with ruger 1911s and something else will be the talk of the town. Thats when I will worry about getting them. My reps are pretty sick of me asking them about them and I am getting tired of asking. Kel tec promised the PMR-30s 2 yrs ago and they are still next to impossible to get at my suppliers still.

Well I picked mine up from the local gun shop yesterday. Haven't shot it yet and it may be a while since deer gun season starts tomorrow so will stay away from the range at least till that is over. Tore it down cleaned and inspected and every thing looks as you would expect. Dry fired it some and there is one little tiny feelable hickup/creep before the trigger breaks but really a pretty nice trigger for unfired. That may wear in with some actual firing. Only negative to me right now is the slide release. It is hard to actuate with a magazine in the gun. Tried some of my Wilson Combat mags and it is still hard. Takes both hands/thumbs to release it. Again will see what some actual firing does to losen/smooth things out. It sure is a pretty thing. Don't know how many they got on this shipment but not enough to satisfy the demand. An employee that I know there is also waiting and I asked if he got his and he said no not yet, retail sales has priority over employee desire. Huh!

Well, my suppliers are getting them in slowly, they just wont sell them to me. I even offered them extra money and they turned it down. Politics as usual. I considered telling one of the sales reps I had just inherited a couple million from a relative and was getting ready to do a large gun purchace.......ahhh, but that would be lying and playing their game......naaa, I will just wait for the rich boys crumbs.

Very nice Todd, I love mine except for the grips. The checkering on my grips is very deep and it really annoyed my hand. I plan on putting new grips on it but they are so nice looking I dont know what grips to use. I talked to Woodnut awhile ago and got even more confused. There are so many types of wood and colors. I also want two medallions I have set into the grips so it still may be awhile until I decide what wood to use. Enjoy your new gun!

King, I agree on the factory grips being very hansom. I am having a hard time talking my self into taking them off. I know what you mean about choosing which wood. It is sort of like opening a box of chocolates and trying to decide which one to pick.

Please forgive my showing off but I am so excited about the new pistol and the new grips I just had to make one more post. Our own Woodnut (Designs by Carl) has made some beautiful grips for 1911's and I took the plunge and had him make a set for the new Ruger. Carl was great to work with and I am well pleased with the results.

Todd, You did not go wrong with the new grips!!! They are awesome! Woodnut did a great job on them. I was thinking the color wouldnt match too well boy was I wrong. I still dont know what color or type f wood to use, Decisions decisions decisions.

Wow what a detailed report on the sr1911! Great read thanks for posting. Since I have had mine I have about 700 rounds through it and it has still never malfunctioned one bit. Like the man says, It is the best 1911 out of the box yet!

I shot a friends a while back. I thought the trigger was just a hair rougher than my Kimber but the action was just a smooth otherwise.

I was going to get one of these but per my gun shop they have only had 3 in this year and they go right away. I don't want the other makes so I will wait for this model...

Well, I finally got mine. I'm a Ruger fan and was excited to be able to get a Ruger for my first 1911.

I've put 100 rounds through it the other night of various types. I had only one problem - a FTF that turned out to be a poorly crimped. Cleaned it up and put a little Drop'L Do on it for lube. SMOOOOOTH.

The one complaint I have is a heavy trigger. It was consistanly pulling at 6 to6.5 lbs. I called Ruger and they were agast as they are tested before shipping and should pull at 4 to 4.5 lbs. They said I could ship it to them and they would fix it, even paying for all shipping if they confirmed the heavy pull. I was impressed with thier customer service, but ultimately decided to send it to my local gunsmith for a trigger job. I know they will do a complete job where Ruger might only swap parts and call it good.

Can't wait to get it back to the range.
