1915, Octagonal Barrel "Favorite" 22 long rifle
“Favorite” 22 Long Rifle description by owner, Sarah J. Key
On top of the octagonal barrel is
J STEVENS FIREARM COMPANY
MADE IN USA 22 LONG RIFLE
CHICOPEE FALLS, MASS. USA
On the top metal connecting the wooden stock is stamped,
On the bottom metal connecting the wooden stock is stamped,
On the octagonal barrel to the right of the rear sight is some
VERY fine decorative engraving (smaller than silk thread) for about 6
inches on the plane between the side and top angles and directly in front of the rear sight for about 1 inch, as well—No further engraving on the octagonal barrel.
Surrounding the trigger/lever assembly, there is a one-piece plate
with scroll work on each side and on two upper planes of the
tri-angled, octagonal shaped part, where the barrel in inserted.
On the very top of the tri-angled octagonal shaped housing the
trigger/lever assembly, there is another stamp reading:
Reg US Pat Off & FGN
On the butt of the stock is a plate stamped in a curved ribbon
logo *STEVENS FAVORITE* with uniform raised dots filling most of the
rest of the butt plate.
I understand the octagonal barrel was not made after 1911—true?
I would like to know everything I can find out about this gun. If you
cannot identify it and help with the general background of the make, some values, the meaning of the markings etc, would you please recommend someone who can?
Sarah J. Key
To my knowledge, never re-blued.
