Hey Guys,
My name is Aaron or user name Connors, I recently joined after reading 300 H & H's thread on the "What .22 Rifle is the most accurate." What an excellent read ![]() It is like being a kid in a candy shop with this forum, as I love reading about and looking at rifles. I have already seen an article by Tony Mig on the Weatherby XXII which is one of the .22s on my list. Some of the rifles that are up for contention are the: 1) CZ ZKM45522VRTH (Thumbhole stock, Varmit barrel) 2) Ruger K77/22VBZ 3) Anschutz 1416 DHB 4) Weatherby Mark XXII All the above are available here in Australia and retail at roughly the same price area. I am looking for a reliable keeper which can be used for hunting and maybe in the future used for a bit of target shooting or plinking. Anyone who has suggestions what other rifles should be considered please don't hesitate in letting me know. Remember in Oz bolt actions are the only rifle that I can consider due to our license laws. Now to start looking at different threads and doing a bit of research. Cheers. ![]()

CZ 455 is the only one I will comment on. I have a 452 that will shoot 5 shot groups at 50 yards that a dime will cover with room to spare. The 455 is reported to be more accurate. This at half the price of the Weatherby.

The only one I'd buy from the list is the 77/22 they are awesome I've had several over the years and currently have beater 77/22 hornet.
![]() 100 yds group from the bipod. This thing shoots pretty good for a hornet ![]() You never know what rifle is actually under the weatherby stamp so they're pretty much on my bad list. I'd look at the Marlin and savage bolt guns if there available over there. Last edited by evan03; 09-22-2011 at 10:19 PM.. |

G'day Aaron
the CZ or the Anny would be my top picks if they are of the same $$, although the Ruger is a excellent rifle that will take a knock or two the CZ and anny both are more target club/ ight sports rifles while the ruger is more of a hunter and built to take a knock or two if i may suggest seeing your in Brissy to give Tony Cleaver a call let him know Jack ( the gun oil guy from here at the forums ) sent ya and ask him what he has that may save you a buck or two he's a gun dealer and often lurks here but never seen him post yet .. but he buys a lot of rifles and theres a lot of folks who buy a rifle and lose a licence ( you know what the laws here are like) and he'll buy them so often has good deals on light usage rifles in the class that your looking i know a few folks who have bought never fired rifles off him thanks to them losing their licences , ( dead set cheap too) his number is 07 3883 1733 cheers and welcome to the forums eh! good to see some more aussies on here ![]() Last edited by jack404; 09-22-2011 at 10:36 PM.. |

Welcome to The Firearms Forum.
From that list, you should end up with a tack driver.

Hey Evan,
I like the Ruger's rotating box magazine and I have heard nothing but good reports about them. Cheers |

You have the option to change barrels on the ruger.

My choices would be the Anschutz first and the CZ-455 second if prices are close. The Anschutz rifles are known for their accuracy and fine triggers. The CZ rifles are also famous for their accuracy but the triggers must be worked on to get the best out of them.
This will bring howls of protest from Ruger owners but in my experience some Rugers shoot like a house afire while others couldn't hit a house. It's the luck of the draw with a Ruger while both Anschutz and CZ consistently perform. I've owned and shot enough Ruger rifles to be wary of them. I've never owned or shot a Weatherby Mk XXII so I have no insight about them. |

Your right about rivers either shooting or not shooting out of the box
However most all I've found will shoot inside an inch with less the 50 bucks invested and a few hours of my time. |

buy what feels good to you after you shoulder the firearm no matter what the brand.that will be the most accurate rifle you can buy.i also want you to remember that a 22 is just like a high powered rifle,it may be ammo sensative.buy as many brands and kinds of ammo you can fiind and afford i will almost guarantee you that you will end up with a tack driver. old semperfi

I've owned and worked on quite a few CZ 452's and about a half dozen 455's. They are about equal NIB for accuracy. The 455's are machined and finished much nicer then the 452's, but the 452's may hold their value a bit better since they are now discontinued in production.
The 455's outshine the 452's in their accuracy potential, if worked on a bit. Pillars, simple trigger upgrade >$20, possibly full bedding and tuning the action screw torques properly will make them shoot groups 1/2 the size of what they come NIB. Triggers can be reduced to 1 1/2-2lbs easily with a Yodave kit. My 455THV will outshoot any 452 its come against at our regular matches and quite aften knocks out some less then stellar Annies and Coopers to boot. The 455 is also a gunsmiths dream to properly fit a barrel and possibly adjust headspace. The double set screw attachment of the barrel does not require timing of the extractor slot like the threaded 452's...the bolt guide part lines it up perfectly if changing barrels. $129 will buy you the alternative .17HMR or .22WMR barrel and magazines....3 guns in one. The Weatherby's are beautifully finished rifles but won't out shoot the CZ's. If you feel like paying twice as much for a nice glossy monte carlo type stock, knock yourself out. They are such pretty rifles I would be scared to take it hunting or shooting too much. The Annies are very nice shooters but some of them are tempermental on extractions...sometimes too tight chambers from what I've been hearing. |

If my memory serves, the Weatherby is made by Anschutz, so those rifles are all but the same; accurate and rather beautifully made. I shot my friends Weatherby yesterday, once he takes the time to find the brand of ammo it likes it will be incredible; very nice trigger and smooth action.
I can not comment on cz, you can't possibly go wrong with the Ruger; see which has features you want and seems to fit you well. If possible, look around at "military trainers" Mossberg m44 and others were great. Good luck and have fun looking. |

I am currently using Weatherby mags in my Anschutz 1452. They were cheaper than the Anschutz mags at Champions Choice
