Default IF I TOLD THIS ONE...........

STORY TELLING....

I'll be 78 sometime this month....at that age, exacting memories kinda fail, but what the hell...have that many candles on your cake a few more or less makes no difference...Yeah, I'm in good health and I'm sure you'd accept my ability to cover your back if you needed me in a hastle...but, Dude, just don't go picking fights to check this boastful comment out...and don't hold it against me if I repeat some of these oft-told stories now and then...ever notice military guys telling those old standby stories as if the event actually happened to them...Old Bud passed away a couple years ago.... I'd seem him at the market often, sitting outside in the shade or sun (depending on the season) smoking and watching the world go by...Bud was a WWII vet...the US ARMY AIR CORPS...crew member on the B-17's over the European theater of operations...Bud told this story as supposedly having happened to him, but chances are you've heard this same story told by others as having happened to them...The 'Fortress formation was flying on a mission to Dresden Germany...that was before the P-51 Mustangs come on line to accompany the bomber formation...the Thunderbolts escorting, low on fuel, had cut out and returned back to England.. The German fighters attacked the lumbering old Fortresses like falcons after a crow...FOKKERS and MESSERSCHMITTS fighters tore and ripped thru the closed up formations and the gunners on the bombers opened up with so many of their '50's that it made the loaded B-17 bombers shudder and shake...Some pilot screamed into his throat mike, "ARE THEY FLYING FOKKERS OR WHAT........"? There was not a moment hesitation and some heavy breathing gunner screamed back in response, "THOSE FOKKERS ARE FLYING MESSERSCHMITTS, CAPT'N"!!!!!! Bud claimed that story for his own and I had absoloutly no reason to doubt him...Bud might have been that original KILROY OF THE SKY too!!!! I miss the old airman...I'm going to fwd this to his daughter ..I think I told her this story before ...I hope she enjoys it again!

I'm only 68, but I never let the facts get in the way of a good story.

A good story is a good story, they just get better with the telling.

When Dad told WW2 stories he would preface them by saying " I know you've heard this before but your gonna' hear it again!" He was Dad so I dutifully listened...again!
