I encourage everyone here to get a 795. Marlin is running its $25 rebate again (blued barrel version), putting the price of this little beauty at around $100. They're accurate and lightweight. 10-rd mags. Excellent bugout gun as well!

Anyone here have any experience with the Papoose? 795 receiver/action but with a removable ss barrel that can be stored in the stock. I think it weighs like 4 pounds.

The Papoose is the BEST break-downable .22lr rifle you can own
The Floating Case is a great way to deal with it...protects in more than one way

The only other fun breaker that worked right was the Marlin 25MB Midget Magnum...
although I always wished they would have made a Marlin 922 like a Papoose...lot to be said for .22WMR fun!!

I bumped this thread because I noticed that Dick's has the Marlin 795 on sale again, with a rebate from Marlin - bringing the price down to $99 plus tax.

Do yourself a big favor and get one of these handy little rifles. Heck, get two.

I'm considering picking one of these up but wanted to wait 'till about spring. Do y'all think Marlin will have the $25 rebate next year?? It seems they have run it the past few years.

Hard to say. If you can swing it, and you want it, get it now. Never know what tomorrow might bring...

Well, I decided to go ahed and get it today. Haven't shot it yet but it feels like a solid gun. I thumbed through the manual and it said nothing about cleaning before firing or barrel "break in"...I will clean it before firing (what size are the allen keys needed to remove stock...are they metric?).
Should I "break it in" or just clean it and have a ball?
Happy with the purchase and can't wait to get at it!

Glad to hear it! You'll enjoy it. I'm not sure offhand what size those Allens are; I just have a tray full of them and usually fish around til I find the one that fits. If you don't have any loose wrenches, you can get a folding pocketknife-style Allen set just about anywhere for $5-$6, and it will have the right sizes I'm sure. Always a good idea to lube 'er up first.

There's a wrench included in the packaging of the stainless model.
The blued uses a flathead screw.

I highly suggest the Walmart/Sports-store Gunsmith Screwdriver Kit that you find for around $10...
its has switchable heads and comes in handy for all sorts of small repairs

^Nope. I had just opened it and looked at the blue gun and it has allen takedown screws...no wrench included.
I have a handful of metric for my motorcycle but have yet to try any of 'em out. None of my US size wrenches fit.
I'll look for that screwdriver kit, Thanks.
