Someone needs to point out to these educated idiots, like Barker, that the 1st amendment to the constitution guarantees the Amreican people Freedom of Religion not Freedom from Religion. Let the city sell the water tower to a local church for $1.00 and other valuable considerations and then have the church contract with the city to maintain the water tower and this group of godless bungholes will have no valid reason to confront the city. I also say that any person who lives in a community and doesn't have the brass to step forward and announce that he/she is against something, has no business griping to strangers.

This happened some years ago to a small town in IL.
Usually, these outfits pick on small towns that simply cannot afford to fight them in court, so they just cave in. The town in IL did remove the cross from their water tower. It was sold to a private citizen who put it up prominently on his private home, and HUNDREDS of residents followed suit. The single cross was removed, but it was replaced by HUNDREDS prominently displayed on private property.

“They are terrorists as far as I’m concerned,” said Mayor James Bellar about the Freedom From Religion Foundation. “They are alleging that some Whiteville resident feels very, very intimidated by this cross.” And I agree!

Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation .. so whats their beef in Tennessee??
or are they no longer a state based group but a pseudo national group of Godless bullies anyone know the bosses name ? where he lives ? ( he wont work i'll wager unless its as a socialist activist or political campaigner ) harrass him at his home and work and his friends no matter where they are , make em quit like we did with the anti gun lobby here make em well known pariah's put crosses on their lawn make sure people attend his house every day to Whitness get really stuck in but be 100% polite while doing so make them look the rabid Godless nutters they are then document it all their rants against faith and God, their rants how no-one has the right to believe or to have a cross and see how ,long the rest of the nation lets them go on as they where , when the coffee shop they attend or any other store they attend starts in on them, or refuses them service because of their rants , they'll quit or be locked up after going ballistic but thats just me .. but i works here |

Outside of Chicago and other communist-controlled zones, there are actually plenty of good folks in Illinois - they're usually just too busy working to protest, or raise a ruckus, so they're generally not heard from.
But if you should pass through Effingham, at the junction of I-70 and I-57, you simply can't miss this - 198' tall, seen by 50,000 travelers every day. For more info, just google "Effingham cross".

On the other hand, forcing you to take the cross down IS a violation of your Constitutional rights. These anti-religious people just tick me and everybody else off. If they don't want to believe in God, then that's fine by me. Nobody is making them. But they shouldn't sit and whine about how we choose to freely express our faith in God or whatever religion we believe in. It's just like how in the schools you can't say "Christmas Break" or "Easter Break" as it might offend people who aren't religious.

these idiots who want all Faith gone , i'd rather see a ban on all these tarot and astrology junk that get's on TV late at night , i find them offensive ( as well as all those flirt /cheat / date behind your partner's back ) as do most Christian folks i'll wager . but do we see us ( Christian folks) demanding these be banned ? , after all these are beamed direct to our homes ...
if they do this then should not Christians be lawfully allowed to protest mosques and demand they be removed ? as they are shoving their religion down 90% of your throats via halal foods , and the push to be accepting of islam and all its horrors , i dont see these types protesting islam , they might when they realise islam says they must die ( Chistians and jews get to pay jizya , non believers are not offered that option ) |

I try REALLY HARD to understand this kind of attitude.
I imagine that my family and I live in a town that is predominantly Satanists. They vote for, and erect, a huge pentagram on the water tower along with the words "Satan Rules!" What do I do? Would I contact the Christian Coalition and take them to court to force them to remove it? WHY?? What kind of a Christian would want to live in a town of Satanists? No, I would not take them to court, threaten them, nor anything else - I would remove myself, my family and our tax money OUT of their little town. Why can't the Anti-Christians have this same attitude?

Great comment. They can take my cross right after they take my gun. The empty gun.
