3 guns + 2 trades + 1 scope = 1937 Model 1897 solid frame riot gun!
Living in Jersey it is hard to sell or trade a handgun. Even if you sell it on ********* it is very hard and expensive to ship. 1) Took 2 handguns that would have netted me $550 on a good day, added $125 and came home with a Winchester 88 (1955 in .308) 2) Added a Leupold scope that cost me $125 Note: I don't hunt and the hard kicking Winchester 88 was no fun at the range. 3) Went to a gun show and traded the Winchester 88 for a 1937 solid frame Model 1897 Riot gun. Here it is with my 1957 Model 12 Riot: Isn't America great!

I hunted with one for YEARS; my father's 4-digit serial # 88 with a Weaver K4 on it. Everyone who shot it for the first time, got an extra eyebrow from the ocular lens. HELL YEAH, they kick! But that aint nothing; try a .35 Whelen on for size, with a #2 barrel and a nice trim stock!! lol

BM1313, I have a story similar to yours. I picked up a Winchester Model 88 in 308 several years ago for about the same cost and later added a Leupold for $100. It's from 1959 and I really like the gun - very well balanced. I wouldn't consider giving it up without a real good reason.
Yes, it does have a kick to it, but mine does have a butt pad, though I have been "scoped" by it with the older scope (not the Leupold) that was on it when I got it. The pad is original to the gun and will eventually be replaced. And, though I don't hunt right now, the Model 88 would definitely be one of my choices depending on what is being hunted. I am loading up 308 for this gun right now and am looking forward to getting to the sweet load.
