Out shopping for everyone else and surprise I had to do something for myself.
As they say better to have one if you need it then to need one and not have it... ![]() ![]()

Adrians right, the .22 is perfect for scambling zombie brains, the bullets go in and just bounce around the inside of the skull, plus .22 is cheap.

I sent a email to Hornady to find out if these are just Vmax bullets with a green polymer tip, I am still waiting on the answer. The good thing is that the Zmax can be bought in boxes of 500, which gives some additional savings over the Vmax bullets.

I bought some for my LC-9 CCW pistol.
![]() I dunno, I think they're cool. But they're nothing more than a FTX,(Flex Tip eXpanding), bullet with the red tip replaced by a green tip. The FTX is built with the soft red plastic tip to prevent the hollow point from being plugged by fabric, then failing to expand in a body. Test show when fired through denim, in front of ballistic gelatin, that the concept works. I also got a box of 40's, may get a box of 45's as well. Since I reload, I rarely buy factory ammo. If they bring out the Z-max bullet as a component, I may get some too.

They are bringing out the Zmax bullet as reloading components, you should start seeing them very shortly.

There were a few boxes of these at a shop I was at a few days ago. Hadn't heard of them beforehand. Thought it was pretty funny. Might have to pick up a box just to keep as a collectors item.

I just cant like this crap.. All it is is Hdy VMAX bullets with yellow tips and the handgun ammo is just the FTX bullets with yellow tips. The Zombie added to the box is just a marketing scam to hike the price a little further. I hate it I hate it I hate it. Ill do just fine with normal cheap XTPs and Amaxes.

The same thing as there personal defense bullets. I think its neat that they are staying with pop-culture and capitalizing off of it. I love zombie movies, shows, comic books, But when really looking at it, like someone mentioned earlier, if you are shooting these and have them in your gun and have to use it for personal defense you probly will look like a trigger happy gun nut. Especially if they can bring it up in court. it would be cool if they had them in cheap .22 though. i have a huge stock pile of .22 already but whats a few hundred more hurt.

They are not trying to sell them as anything more then a niche gimmick. They are going into my safe until I get an exploding zombie target to shoot them at.

I saw a youtube video on the .45 acp and .40 S&W doing tests through denim then into water jugs. Those things got some nice expansion but I don't think they are any better than the Speer Gold Dots I carry. The Speer's open up real nice too!

So do golden sabers. I have tested them extensively wanting them to fail because I sorta have it out for remington ammo. but they will not, so thats what i like to carry.

I did the same thing between the Speer Gold Dots and the Federal Personal protection rounds and those Federals failed to open 9/10 times. With the Speers They would open up no matter what 100% of the time.

I have had the same problem with the federals too. they open up easily on a 'bare flesh hit' but clog easly when shot thru simulated clothing. Most of the exposed lead hollowpoint .38 spec ammo does the same. Best used for hunting where the target doesnt wear clothes. if shot thru clothing the HP cavities clog with debris and they wont open. Might as well be a FMJ. But the Golden sabers, hdy XTPs, Speer golddots, win PDX1, and a couple others im forgetting open up like squids no matter what. and the Golden sabers are the biggest and sharpest of the expanded shrooms.

Id prefer a 50 caliber fully automatic machine gun from a helicopter. You know like hog hunting off a helicopter but then you will run out of fuel. I would just recommend you stay on a tall building that cant be reached with thousands of rounds of centerfire ammo with days of food supply, plenty of water, and make sure there wont be no way of them getting to the top

Call me crazy if you want, but I think this is disgusting. I never would have expected Hornady to sell bullets in a box that looks like it came straight out of a comic book. Is this meant to appeal to ten year olds?
As it is, we have so many shootings and accidents caused by kids playing with guns, so many troubled and even disturbed kids in our world,so many sensless shootings,, now Hornady is going to market with "ZOMBIE" bullets. The people who want to get rid of guns are going to have a field day with this one,, "Zombie Bullets" The bullets that your kids will love From the back of the box:"They will try to distract you by waving their arms all over" "STAY FOCUSED" "HEAD: this is the only part that`s worth aiming for" What`s next? "special semi-auto .223 green Zombie gun" Grow Up Hornady, A gun is a tool for hunting, a weapon for self defense. a source of entertainment at the shooting range for "RESPONSIBLE ADULTS" What responsible adults need to buy ammo in bubble gum boxes? Again Grow Up. All the gun controll advocates should thank Hornady for such "GREAT AMMUNITION" Disgusted Mature Gun Owner |
